This role also provides networking infrastructure design, satcom system installation, commissioning, training and post-sales support to Viasat clients as part of the International Government Engineering Team.
The Solutions Specialist is a self-sufficient and self-motivated engineering professional with solution design as well as field experience, who is expected to oversee all requirements and dependencies of tasks allocated to them.
This includes arranging availability of required materials, transport of equipment and materials to site where applicable, travel logistics and site access considerations, safety considerations of the task and supervision of any allocated contractors or assisting peers.
The Solutions Specialist is expected to be able to identify and adapt an existing solution design to meet customer requirements where this can be achieved using existing G2 products and services.
The role may require participating in a 24/7 on-call roster for end client engineering support, including contracted telephone support to end users of mobile satellite systems and solutions as well as engineering support of internal networking infrastructure supporting these users on a 24/7 basis.Key ResponsibilitiesSatellite solution hardware component configuration development, installation, commissioning and maintenance, including dependant internal systems and customer-facing networks.Support and maintenance of VIG Solutions airtime systems (Legacy TC Comms DP and G2 VAR networks and applications).
Support and maintenance of VIG Solutions internal network infrastructure (APN & SVN routers, firewalls, servers, SaaS systems and restricted/classified networks).
Diagnose issues end-to-end, isolate causes, and implement corrective maintenance to return systems to service.Collaborate with peers and management to assist in incident analysis and escalation as needed.Provide assistance with pre-sales support, demonstrations and exhibitions as required.Assemble and test custom solutions to meet client needs.Create technical documentation to record as-built configurations and support bids.Develop and deliver operator and technical training to partners and end-user customers.Conduct technical skills assessments of VIG partners and end-user staff where required.Conduct root cause analysis of satellite solution issues and document findings.On-site and workshop inspections, repairs, installations and maintenance of networking equipment, satellite terminals (aero, marine, land) and related hardware.Participation in the on-call roster.DimensionsComplete corrective maintenance on first site visit where possible.Deliver tasks to required quality within the agreed schedule.Adhere to safety requirements, ensuring zero injuries.Meet response and performance SLAs for the 24/7 on-call roster.Travel domestically and internationally as required, including irregular patterns and possible weekend work.Commit to ongoing personal development.Maintain Australian Defence security clearance (must be an Australian citizen).
Hold a current Australian driver's license and passport.What You'll NeedTrade-qualified to Australian Electrotechnology/Telecommunications/IP Networking Certificate VI or equivalent, with a minimum of 4 years industry experience.Experience in IP networking and IT (server deployment and maintenance) or satellite communications technologies, with working knowledge of Microsoft and/or Linux.Ability to configure IP networking hardware (routers, firewalls, switches) to meet customer needs.Ability to prepare and deliver technical presentations and reports to clients on performance and incidents.Strong analytical skills to diagnose client issues and propose solutions; self-motivated with the ability to motivate peers.Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Visio.Ability to work at heights with Working at Heights certification and in confined spaces with Confined Space certification.What Will Help You On the JobFormal Australian tertiary qualifications in Workplace Training and Assessment (TAE40116).
GVF Advanced Installer or GVF Examiner certification.Project Management qualifications.IP Networking certifications (Cisco CCNA, Network+ or equivalent).
Microsoft, Linux, Asterisk certifications.Knowledge of network virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
