Offer description

Are you a veterinarian looking for the perfect mix of small animal and equine work?

In a team that supports flexibility, work/life balance and happiness at work (and was just listed as one of Australia's 30 best workplaces for women for the second year running?!)

With an incredible team of registered nurses and support staff, and the back up of over 30 more vets in our group of 8 clinics across North Queensland?

What if we told you this was only 1 hours drive from the tropical city of Cairns, with access to all the amenities, activities, shopping and social life you could need, with Australia's best tropical climate?

Read on... we've got just the opportunity for you!

The opportunity

Coral Coast Veterinary Service is seeking a full-time veterinarian to join our team. The role is based in Innisfail, a large sugar farming town 1 hour south of Cairns in Tropical North Queensland.

Coral Coast Veterinary Service is a general practice small animal clinic with a growing equine caseload. The team is made up of three to four veterinarians and six veterinary nurses and receptionists. The clinic offers all of the expected routine and preventative care services for pets and horses, such as vaccination, desexing and dentistry, along with emergency treatment of medical and surgical cases. There is also a growing equine reproductive service.

The clinic boasts a beautiful, open plan with shiny new facilities and plenty of space. We have IDEXX in house pathology lab, wireless DR xray, small animal ultrasound, IM3 dental suite including dental xray, and mobile horse crush and dental kit including power float.

Opportunities exist for in house training and mentorship from our senior veterinary staff who hold a range of post graduate qualifications including multiple ANZCVS memberships, PhDs and two registered specialists (in cattle and reproduction).

This role may be perfect for you if...

* You are seeking a position where you will get a predominantly general practice small animal caseload, and the opportunity to help us grow our equine reproduction, dentistry and routine clinical work.
* You want to be surrounded by people who love their work and know how important the balance between support and opportunities are in your first year in practice.
* You want to be an appreciated and respected part of your community.
* You love an outdoor lifestyle, featuring rolling countryside, pristine rainforest and waterfalls, golden beaches, turquoise tropical waters and endless expanses of bush.
* You highly value the opportunity to learn and grow, both as a veterinarian and a well-rounded person.

In the clinic, a typical day may include:

* Routine and first opinion small animal consultations including vaccinations and health checks, skin conditions, lameness, ear and eye consultations, sick animals, tick paralysis, snake bites and other emergency presentations.
* Routine small animal surgery and procedures, including desexings, lump removals, dentistry and wound treatments.
* Ambulatory equine farm visits, including colic management, stitch ups, ophthalmic conditions, vaccinations, dentistry and other first opinion visits.

The position details

* Full time position - 4 days per week
* Workday from 7:30am to 5:00pm with 1/2 hour lunch break
* Shared after hours roster - some Saturday morning work required when on call
* Above award salary based on our innovate, transparent and objective pay scale
* Very generous CPD allowance, including career and life skills development
* AVA and Special Interest Group Membership paid
* Queensland Vet Surgeons Board and Radiation License paid
* Clinic VIN, VetEducation and CVE membership

Our ideal candidate

To thrive in this role, you should be a confident yet humble veterinarian, who can relate to people from all walks of life and have strong interpersonal skills. An ability to work independently and be adaptable is important, although there is plenty of support from clinic colleagues, our experienced nursing team and the senior vets across our group.

Other important attributes include:

* Excellent communication skills with colleagues and clients
* A caring, compassionate nature
* Someone who solves problems and has a 'can do' attitude
* A desire to make life easier for your colleagues and clients
* A positive outlook and desire to have fun and enjoy your work
* Registration with the Queensland Veterinary Surgeons Board or other recognised jurisdiction.
