We're currently looking for an ICT Cost Estimator to join a large-scale Defence transformation initiative focused on modernising core technology platforms. The program will bring together cloud hosting, security, and operational capabilities into a single integrated environment designed to strengthen cyber resilience and support long‐term, sustainable technology investment.
This role will play an important part in shaping how future ICT capability is funded and delivered. Working closely with architects, program teams, and senior stakeholders, you'll help translate complex technical solutions into clear, evidence‐based cost models that inform strategic decision making.
The role can be based in Canberra, Sydney, or Melbourne.
What you'll be doing:
* Developing detailed cost estimates for complex ICT environments, considering technical dependencies and long‐term lifecycle costs.
* Building and maintaining financial models that support investment planning and program decision making.
* Applying structured estimation methodologies and tools such as ACEIT and the Capability Costing Tool (CCT).
* Analysing cost drivers, assumptions, and risks to produce realistic and defensible estimates.
* Engaging with stakeholders across government and industry to validate technical inputs and costing assumptions.
* Supporting governance and helping strengthen internal capability around cost estimation practices.
What we're looking for:
* Hands‐on experience developing ICT cost models using ACEIT and/or CCT.
* Strong understanding of Defence strategic priorities, including the National Defence Strategy.
* Knowledge of relevant Commonwealth frameworks such as the PGPA Act, Commonwealth Procurement Rules, and the Defence Cost Estimation Manual.
* Ability to present complex cost insights in a clear and practical way to senior stakeholders.
Nice to have:
* Exposure to cloud financial management (FinOps) or consumption‐based cost modelling.
* Experience applying analytical techniques to assess different delivery options in complex environments.
