* PHP Developer – Legacy Upgrade Project
* 4 month Contract
* Hybrid - Mix of WFH and Central Sydney office
We’re partnering with a technical team to deliver a clean, controlled upgrade of several custom-built PHP applications. The primary focus is migrating from PHP 7 to the latest supported version, ensuring compatibility, stability, and modern standards are met. This is a contract suited to a developer who thrives in upgrade environments, is comfortable working with legacy code, and can engage confidently with stakeholders to troubleshoot issues as they arise.
You'll be joining a collaborative team environment, taking direction from a senior technical lead, and trusted to work independently on scoped deliverables. Key Responsibilities:
o Upgrade internal PHP applications from PHP 7 to the latest version
o Identify and address compatibility or deprecated function issues
o Conduct unit and integration testing post-upgrade
o Liaise with internal stakeholders for clarification or testing support
o Provide basic documentation of changes as required
About You:
o Proven experience upgrading PHP-based applications in real-world environments
o Solid understanding of PHP internals, backwards compatibility, and common pitfalls in version jumps
o Confident working with legacy or lightly documented codebases
o Able to troubleshoot independently and communicate technical decisions clearly
o Bonus: exposure to higher ed, government, or complex internal systems (not essential)
