We are seeking a Legal Counsel to act as the organisation’s primary in-house legal advisor, providing practical, commercially grounded legal guidance across the full spectrum of legal, risk, governance and compliance matters.
This is a genuinely broad in-house role — suited to a lawyer who wants exposure beyond contract review and is ready to operate at a whole-of-business level, partnering closely with leaders across operations, finance, commercial and people functions.
About The Role
As Legal Counsel, you will provide end-to-end legal support across the business. While commercial contracting is an important component of the role, the position extends well beyond contracts management to include negotiations, dispute management, regulatory compliance, governance frameworks and enterprise legal risk.
You will work closely with senior leaders to ensure legal considerations are embedded into decision-making, operational delivery and commercial strategy, while helping the business proactively identify and manage legal risk.
This role is a permanent part-time role working 3 days per week.
Key Responsibilities
Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice across a wide range of operational and corporate mattersDraft, negotiate and advise on commercial arrangements, including supplier, customer, hire, services and property agreementsSupport the business in negotiating arrangements, managing legal issues and resolving disputesManage disputes, claims and investigations, including coordinating and overseeing external legal counsel where requiredIdentify, assess and mitigate legal and regulatory risk across the organisationDevelop, maintain and support governance, compliance and legal risk frameworksMonitor regulatory and legislative changes and advise on impacts to the businessPartner with leaders and teams across the organisation to deliver clear, actionable legal guidanceContribute to a strong culture of ethical decision-making, compliance and risk awareness
About You:
You’re a Lawyer Who
Holds a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor, with admission in Australia and a current practicing certificateHas approximately 2–7 years’ post-qualification experience, gained in private practice and/or in-houseHas exposure to commercial, corporate or general legal matters and is keen to broaden your in-house capabilityIs confident providing advice beyond contract review, including on disputes, risk and compliance mattersCommunicates clearly and pragmatically with stakeholders at all levelsEnjoys working across a diverse range of legal issues in a hands-on, operational environment
In-house experience is not essential — strong foundational legal skills, sound judgement and a practical mindset are key.
