The Company
Grains Australia was established to deliver industry-good services on behalf of the Australian grains value chain. Its core functions include supporting and improving trade and market access, establishing and maintaining national grain variety classification systems, providing market and consumer insights and technical support and training to customers and participants across the grains industry.
Wholly owned by the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), Grains Australia works closely with government, industry and international stakeholders to improve market access outcomes for Australian grain and grain products.
The Opportunity
The General Manager, Trade and Market Access position is a key executive role within Grains Australia. It is responsible for the coordination and management of all grain industry market access issues and opportunities.
This role requires the assessment and prioritisation of all market access issues and engagement with the entire grains value chain and all levels of government to develop long term strategic approaches to improve and maintain market access outcomes and to respond to current issues.
As part of this, the General Manager, Trade and Market Access will lead and mentor Grains Australia's Trade and Market Access team.
This is a senior, highly visible role operating at the intersection of government, industry and international markets, with responsibility for advancing Australia's grain trading access interests in complex global environments.
Key deliverables include:
Establishing a high functioning industry framework for identifying market access priorities, that are clearly articulated and understood by industry and government
Development of strategies and action plans to resolve market access constraints
Delivery of market access improvements and demonstrated progress towards resolutions
Regular communications to key industry stakeholders
Executive-level collaboration with senior management and Board, to deliver key strategic targets and plans for the company
About You
To be considered for this opportunity, candidates will ideally possess the following:
Executive leadership experience gained from a respected industry or organisation
A successful track-record of delivering complex national and international programs, for the betterment of industry
Experience in working to support government in diplomatic activities such as market access undertakings, free trade agreements, submissions, trade missions and hosting delegations
Cultural awareness and situational leadership in complex global relationships
Exemplary communication, presentation and relationship management skills
Demonstrated planning and program composition skills
Tertiary qualifications in relevant disciplines and an understanding of grain or other primary industries in global markets.
An existing industry network and capacity to travel (domestic and international)
