A new opportunity has arisen for a Midwifery Educator to join the professional team at a private hospital in Sydney. This is a part-time position (2 days per week) with the option to fulfil a full-time position working as a Registered Midwife for the remaining 3 days.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Midwife Educator (ME) is a pivotal position within the clinical area supporting evidence-based practice and the development of the novice clinician. Additionally, the ME has an integral role in consulting and advising on the clinical component of both the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery and the Bachelor of Midwifery Programs. This position will report to and work closely with the Midwife Unit Manager – Postnatal Ward and network more broadly with the Midwife Educator- Birth Unit, hospital Education and Quality teams.
The responsibilities will include:
* Coordinating, supporting, and facilitating clinical learning for undergraduate and postgraduate Midwifery students;
* Orienting and inducting new staff, outlining roles and responsibilities;
* Leading and providing hands-on education, supporting, and clinically teaching the Postnatal Unit team, graduating midwives, and students;
* Assisting with assessing competencies, developing learning plans, and implementing in-service programming;
* Promoting evidence-based midwifery care by sharing current best-practice knowledge;
* Ensuring employees comply with Mandatory Training requirements, including completing eLearning modules;
* Participating in developing, implementing, and enforcing policy and procedure compliance.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
* Current AHPRA registration;
* Minimum 8 years senior Midwifery (with min 5 years Postnatal Unit experience);
* Certificate IV Workplace Assessment & Training (TAE);
* Master of Education;
* Experience teaching and supervising students and novice midwives/nurses;
* Strong preceptorship and mentoring skills;
* Demonstrated innovation in education program design and delivery using evidence based practices;
* Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills;
* Demonstrated quality improvement activities and policy review/development skills;
* Intermediate computer skills;
* Master in Maternal Health (desirable);
* Academic teaching experience.

ABOUT THE FACILITY
The hospital, located in Sydney's North West, is a busy 277-bed high acuity facility. The Women's Health Unit is a 43-bed post/antenatal/gynaecology ward with 7 birthing suite rooms. Supporting this service is a 7-bed level 2 Special Care Nursery.
