Financial Systems Architect

The Architecture Division is responsible for designing and overseeing the overall structure and design of technology systems.

They ensure that all technology components work together efficiently and align with the company's long-term business goals.

This division sets the principles and guidelines for software development and infrastructure, helping to improve system performance, resilience, security, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities:

* Requirements Analysis: They work closely with business analysts to understand specific business problems and ensure that the captured requirements have the level of detail and coverage required to support robust solution design.
* Solution Design and Blueprinting: This is the core responsibility of the role, to design the technical solutions aligned to Architectural standards. This involves selecting the appropriate platforms, tools, and architectural patterns. Then creating blueprints, system diagrams, and architectural documents that detail the components of the system, how they interact, and which technologies will be used.
* Technology Selection and Evaluation: Solution Architects are responsible for evaluating and recommending the right technologies to solve a business problem. They must consider the existing technology stack, budget, maintenance costs, and future scalability to ensure the chosen solution provides long-term value.
* Technical Leadership and Governance: They provide technical guidance and leadership to development teams throughout the project lifecycle. This includes ensuring the implementation adheres to the architectural design, security standards, and best practices. They also act as a point of contact for technical issues and decision-making.
* Stakeholder Communication: A key part of the job is communicating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. They present the solution design, benefits, and potential risks to stakeholders, ensuring everyone is aligned on the technical direction and project goals.
* Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Solution Architects proactively identify potential technical risks, such as integration challenges, security vulnerabilities, or performance bottlenecks. They develop strategies to mitigate these risks, ensuring the final solution is robust and reliable.
* Contribute to Enterprise Architecture: Provide feedback on architectural standard, components or patterns that should be added, changed, or removed. Share their experience with specific technologies, emerging trends, and implementations with the wider team to inform future strategy.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Financial Domain Knowledge: A foundational understanding of equities, fixed income, derivatives, and other financial instruments is preferred. Knowledge and experience with concepts like trading workflows, order management systems (OMS), risk management, and post-trade processing is highly beneficial.

Technical Proficiency: You'll need hands-on experience with technologies critical to the financial sector. This includes:

* Low-latency Systems: Experience designing and implementing high-performance, low-latency trading systems.
* Integration: Experience with APIs and events and how they can be implemented with modern architectural models such as microservices
* Cloud Computing: Expertise with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) to build scalable and resilient financial applications utilising high levels of automation (Terraform, GitHub Pipelines)
* Data and Analytics: Knowledge of data pipelines, databases (both SQL and NoSQL), and analytics tools to support a data driven business.
* Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge: The financial industry is heavily regulated. You must be well-versed in key regulations and design solutions that are compliant from the start.
* Problem-Solving: The ability to analyse complex trading and business problems, identify technical and business requirements, and design solutions that are effective, future proofed and cost-efficient.
* Communication: Excellent communication skills are vital for bridging the gap between business-side equities traders, compliance officers, and technical development teams. You must be able to clearly explain technical solutions, trade-offs, and risks to non-technical stakeholders.
