About NEAC
NEAC offers a systems‑science approach, combining technical data with human behaviour insights to support fast, smarter energy innovation. Key elements include The Living Lab (a real‑world data network of homes, businesses and energy users), The Systems Science Toolbox (a comprehensive model suite), and physical infrastructure integration.
Role Summary
Develop and apply MBSE to support Australia’s energy transition. Build MBSE capabilities, translate stakeholder needs into formal models, develop analytical workflows, and contribute to NEAC’s roadmap.
Your high‑level duties include
- Translating stakeholder perspectives into formal SysML requirements.
- Developing SysML models aligned with NEAC’s reference architecture.
- Creating scientific computing software for analytical workflows.
- Collaborating with NEAC leadership and technical teams to deliver on strategic priorities.
- Coaching colleagues in systems engineering practices and engaging with the wider community.
- Upholding CSIRO’s values: safety, diversity, sustainability.
Role particulars
- Location: Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Canberra (east coast).
- Salary: AU$135k – AU$158k per annum (pro rata for part‑time) plus 15.4% superannuation.
- Tenure: Full time, specified term until 31 December 2028; part‑time, job‑share and flexible arrangements possible.

Essential qualifications
- A degree in Systems Engineering or a related field, with 5+ years of industry or research experience.
- Deep understanding of MBSE and systems architecture using SysML.
- Strong computational skills in scientific computing languages (Python, Julia, R, MATLAB).
- Experience modelling and solving constrained optimisation problems in scientific computing environments.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a energetic, agile team.
Desirable qualifications
- Experience with SysML modelling tools (e.g., CATIA, IBM Rhapsody).
- Familiarity with Git and team‑based software development.
- Experience in data analytics with large or complex datasets.
- Understanding of supply chains and/or energy systems.
Eligibility
