Apprentice Fitter & Turner

Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical 4-Year Apprenticeship | Ballarat | Start ASAP

About the Role

This is a hands-on apprenticeship where you’ll gain practical, real-world skills while completing a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical.

You’ll be trained by trade-qualified, experienced professionals and exposed to work that goes well beyond a generic machine shop. The focus is on precision, quality and problem-solving — producing components where accuracy genuinely matters.

For the right person, this apprenticeship can open pathways into specialist engineering roles, motorsport and race teams, including elite performance environments.

What You’ll Learn & Do

With mentoring and support, you’ll learn to:

· Perform precision fitting, assembly and turning operations on high-performance drivetrain components

· Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications

· Work closely with engineers and tradespeople to deliver high-quality outcomes

· Carry out quality inspections to ensure products meet strict performance and safety standards

· Assist with routine maintenance and troubleshooting of manufacturing machinery, including lathes, milling machines and grinders

· Develop strong workshop practices with a focus on safety, accuracy and attention to detail

About You

No previous experience is required — no VCE prerequisites, work experience or licence are needed. What matters most is your attitude.

We’re looking for someone who:

· Is keen to learn a skilled mechanical trade

· Enjoys hands-on, practical work

· Takes pride in doing things properly and accurately

· Is reliable, punctual and committed to completing a four-year apprenticeship

· Works well as part of a team and follows instructions

· Understands the importance of safety in a workshop environment

Why Albins?

People stay at Albins because the work is interesting, the standards are high, and the skills you learn are genuinely valuable. You’ll be part of a team that takes pride in precision engineering and invests time in training apprentices properly — not just keeping them busy.

This is an opportunity to build a strong trade foundation in a specialist environment, with skills that can take you well beyond a standard machining role.

Why BGT?

At BGT, we go the extra mile for our people. Apprentices are supported, trained properly and treated as valued members of the team.

We understand that life happens - and when it does, you’re not on your own. Whether that’s time to talk things through, practical support when the day goes sideways, or simply knowing someone has your back, we believe good workplaces are built on decency and trust.

If you’re keen to learn, willing to put in the effort, and want to build your trade in a place that genuinely cares, BGT is the right place to start.

Start date: ASAP — we’re ready when we find the right person.
