Their current development pipeline includes apartment projects, community developments centred around lifestyle amenity, and master planned mixed-use precincts comprising commercial, retail, health, civic and community uses in prime, well-connected locations.They are now seeking an experienced Senior / Principal Urban Planner to join their in-house planning team, working closely with development, commercial and executive leadership to obtain planning approvals for major, city-shaping projects across Sydney and NSW.This is a senior, developer side role offering genuine influence across the full lifecycle of complex developments, from early master planning and visioning through to statutory approvals and delivery. You will engage extensively with government agencies, consultants and internal stakeholders to ensure projects achieve best-practice urban, design and commercial outcomes.Years of Experience:10 – 15 years+Responsibilities include but not limited to:Strategic Planning & ApprovalsDeveloping planning strategy for major mixed-use developments including residential, commercial, retail, civic and public domain usesManaging statutory planning pathways including State Significant Development (SSD), planning proposals, Development Applications and post-consent requirementsApplying in-depth knowledge of the NSW planning system including SEPPs, LEPs, DCPs, Design Guides and State policiesPreparing and overseeing planning submissions, Statements of Environmental Effects, Environmental Impact Statements and consultant inputsStakeholder & Government EngagementActing as the primary planning interface with NSW Government agencies, local councils and authoritiesManaging interactions via the NSW Planning PortalLeading negotiations with planning authorities to resolve complex urban, design, infrastructure and public benefit mattersCoordinating community and stakeholder engagement strategies in collaboration with communications teamsDesign & Urban OutcomesCollaborating with architects, urban designers, landscape architects, engineers and specialist consultantsEnsuring alignment between planning strategy, design excellence processes and commercial objectivesChampioning sustainability, resilience, placemaking and high-quality public domain outcomesDevelopment Integration & LeadershipWorking closely with the Group Planning Manager, development, commercial and legal teamsIdentifying planning risks and opportunities and proactively managing approval timelinesSupporting staging strategies, land-use optimisation and long-term precinct visioningProviding planning advice to executive leadership and investment partnersManaging external planning consultants and contributing to broader portfolio planning strategyQualifications and Requirements:Tertiary qualification in Urban Planning or a related disciplineMinimum 10–15 years' experience in urban planning, with a strong focus on large-scale or complex mixed-use developmentsProven experience within the NSW planning system, ideally including SSD and planning proposal processesDemonstrated client-side experience for a developer or senior consultancy backgroundStrong capability managing complex approvals and multi-disciplinary consultant teamsHighly developed negotiation, stakeholder management and communication skillsPersonal Attributes:Strategic, commercially astute and solutions-focusedConfident communicator with credibility at senior government and executive levelsPassionate about city shaping, design excellence and long-term urban outcomesComfortable operating in dynamic, long-horizon development environmentsThis is a permanent full-time opportunity to work on landmark, city-shaping developments within a high-calibre development team committed to design excellence and best-practice urbanism.If you have the skills and experience that we are looking for, click "Apply" to submit your resume or contact Lisa Naughton via email on lisa.naughton@amida-recruit.com.au or Sam Barnes via email on sam.barnes@amida-recruit.com.au for further information.
