About The Role
Australian Lifting Centre Pty Ltd is a leading provider of access and lifting equipment, supporting construction, industrial and commercial customers with reliable machinery and tailored technical solutions. As we expand our product engineering capability, we are seeking an innovative Mechanical Engineer with strong expertise in mechanical design, advanced prototyping, mechatronic systems and R&D-driven product development.
This position is ideal for an engineer with experience in precision mechanisms, robotics-inspired design principles, structural integrity analysis and development of engineered solutions for real-world applications. You will contribute to the enhancement, optimisation and customisation of our lifting and access equipment, helping us deliver products with improved safety, durability and performance
Key Responsibilities
* Lead mechanical design and analysis activities for new product concepts, system improvements and customised equipment solutions.
* Apply advanced mechanical and mechatronic engineering principles to enhance equipment capabilities.
* Conduct structural and mechanical performance assessments, including simulations, safety evaluations and compliance checks with Australian Standards.
* Develop prototypes, perform hands-on experimental testing, evaluate results and implement iterative improvements.
* Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, technical files and documentation for both internal teams and external manufacturing partners.
* Contribute to R&D initiatives aimed at improving reliability, reducing failure rates and enhancing lifecycle performance of access and lifting machinery.
* Investigate complex mechanical problems, carry out root-cause analysis and implement engineering corrective actions.
* Work closely with service technicians, operations staff and external suppliers to ensure seamless integration of engineered improvements.
* Support custom engineering requests by translating client requirements into practical, engineered solutions.
Skills & Experience
* Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a closely related field; higher research qualifications (e.g., Master or PHD) will be highly regarded.
* Proven experience in product development, R&D engineering, robotics, mechanism designs or complex electromechanical systems.
* Strong capability in 3D CAD modelling, mechanical analysis, prototype development and experimental validation.
* Solid understanding of materials behavior, structural design, load paths, fatigue, safety engineering and mechanical reliability.
* Experience in taking a concept from research/ideation through to prototype testing and final engineering documentation.
* Ability to work independently on technically demanding tasks while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams
Desirable Attributes
* Background in designing or improving machinery, lifting systems, articulated mechanisms or automated devices.
* Knowledge of Australian mechanical/equipment safety standards (AS 1418, AS 2550 or relevant frameworks).
* Hands-on experience with prototyping tools, lab/mechanical testing, root-cause analysis and precision assembly.
* Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate complex mechanical problems into well-engineered solutions.
What We Offer
* The opportunity to shape the development of advanced mechanical solutions in a specialist equipment environment.
* Strong involvement in end-to-end product engineering—from early design through to prototype validation and implementation.
* A supportive and technically focused environment where innovation and rigorous engineering are valued.
* Competitive salary and long-term career prospects within a growing organisation
