About The Team & The Position

The System Design Division plays a critical role in AEMO's success, driving the organisation's collaborative and industry-wide efforts in meeting the challenges of a transitioning energy system. The Division includes specialist areas in system planning, forecasting, future energy systems as well as onboarding and connections.

The incumbent in this role, works to

* Provide market operator and industry with information on the balance of supply and demand in the next ten years to help inform whether action is required to meet the reliability standard
* Engage with stakeholders and provide critical insights on the investments required to close reliability gaps over the same timeframe

Position Responsibilities

Ensure timely and accurate delivery of MTPASA ((Medium Term Projected Assessment of System Adequacy), EAAP (Energy Adequacy Assessment Projection) and ESOO (Electricity Statement of Opportunities) for the National Electricity Market, liaising across the organisation as necessary to provide relevant data, information and insights to stakeholders. Support relevant related activities associated with modelling potential procurement activities to:

* Establish and implement a stakeholder engagement plan and provide strategic advice to stakeholders on matters of reliability adequacy and impacts on reliability of the power system.
* Attract, retain and develop a high-performing Team that demonstrates AEMO's values, always
* Develop a strategic plan for the Team that aligns with the strategy for the Department, with focus on innovation to improve the accuracy of the forecasts.
* Work closely with Group Manager to manage within current budgets and set future budgets. The position has budgetary and staff management authority in accordance with the financial, management and operational delegations endorsed by the Board and ELT.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of Departmental and Divisional Strategies and Plans, and team initiatives that support these strategies

Position Requirements

Skills & Experience

* Proven industry or related experience in electricity systems at a management level in a complex, multi-disciplinary environment and at least 10 years' experience in the energy industry.
* Experience leading and managing geographically dispersed teams through transformation to deliver high quality outcomes and reporting up to senior management.
* Detailed knowledge of the political, legal, and regulatory framework in which the energy industry operates.
* Knowledge of the changing energy consumer, drivers of demand, energy economics and econometrics.
* Sophisticated consulting skills used to manage interactions with stakeholders
* Strong verbal and written communication skills and editorial skills
* Demonstrated experience in project planning, reporting, and delivery; ensuring that projects are delivered as planned and to an appropriate quality standard.

Education/Professional Certifications

* Tertiary and/or postgraduate qualifications in mathematics, economics, data science, operations research, statistics, physics or any appropriate technology discipline
