Microbiology Scientist, Part Time (Shift)

As a scientist in the Microbiology department at Princess Alexandra Hospital, you will assist in the provision of an effective and efficient pathology service to clients. This will include Molecular testing for Respiratory viruses including SARS-CoV-2 as well as routine Bacteriology and may include Serology and Mycology testing. The position requires scientists to rotate within all sections of the Microbiology departments following appropriate training and subject to operational requirements.
What you'll do
You will:
* Exercise judgement and discretion in undertaking various tasks whilst being responsible for the quality of work undertaken, by managing workloads appropriately and prioritising tasks.
* As a scientist in the Microbiology department at Princess Alexandra Hospital, assist in the provision of an effective and efficient pathology service to clients. This will include Molecular testing for Respiratory viruses including SARS-CoV-2 as well as routine Bacteriology culture reading and may include Serology and Mycology testing.
About you
We are searching for someone who has:
* Knowledge, expertise and skill in the delivery of scientific judgement within the discipline of Microbiology.
* Demonstrated ability to prioritise specimens, to perform tests accurately and efficiently without direct supervision and to work independently towards the logical solution of scientific and technical problems.
* Ability to apply established principles to a Microbiology service with provision of results and clinical advice in a client focused manner.
* Ability to build and maintain appropriate relationships with team members, clients and stakeholders.
* Ability (or ability to rapidly acquire the skill) to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with National Association of Testing Authorities and International Organisation of Standardisation (NATA/ISO) accreditation/certification.
* Actively participate in operational requirements of the laboratory withparticipation as required which will include weekend shifts (as overtime).
This is a shift position which may require work after hours if required
