About the role
The Queanbeyan Hospital is seeking experienced and enthusiastic Staff Specialists or VMOs to join the Emergency Department team.
So much to explore in the Southern NSW region: Snowy Mountains, Sapphire Coast, Yass Valley, the Great Dividing Range and the Southern Tablelands. The area offers a mix of services and lifestyle opportunities with a strong regional community presence.
Where you'll be working
Queanbeyan is located on the Queanbeyan River, 289 km south-west of Sydney and 15 km south-east of Canberra. The hospital has 18 funded inpatient beds, serves a population of approximately 68,000 residents, and handles around 27,000 ED presentations per year. The ED aims to grow with the community and improve patient care through collaboration with imaging, maternity, anaesthetics, inpatient wards and executive leadership.
Role responsibilities
What You'll Be Doing: The role of a Consultant in Emergency Medicine is to lead high quality, specialised and safe clinical care in the Emergency Department within the hospital setting. The Consultant also leads training and supervision of clinicians in the multidisciplinary setting to achieve quality education outcomes and safe clinical practice. All clinical shifts are 8 hours. For staff specialists, a 1 FTE position includes 25% clinical support time. Clinical support time portfolios include accreditation and training, clinical governance, junior doctor education, supervision and support, and mentoring coordination.
Qualifications and requirements
Selection Criteria Essential
* Evidence of registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Specialist, Emergency Medicine or Specialist, General Practice (FRACGP or FACRRM) with additional advanced qualifications in Emergency Medicine. Relevant senior experience and recency of practice within Emergency Medicine in Australia or equivalent setting.
* Demonstrated recency of practice and knowledge, experience, skills and high standards of clinical practice in Emergency Medicine appropriate to the requirements of the position.
* Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for a Senior Medical Practitioner, including modelling a high standard of professional behaviours to the multidisciplinary team.
* Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, build collaborative partnerships and provide leadership of a team.
* Demonstrated experience, understanding and commitment to patient safety and other aspects of clinical governance.
* Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of medical, nursing and allied health professionals and to continuing self-education, research and quality improvement and demonstrated commitment to behaviours which align to the NSW Health CORE values and SNSWLHD Values, goals and strategies.
* Commitment to participate in an equitable medical roster, including evenings, weekend shifts and the on-call roster, and ability to respond on site within a reasonable time frame.
