Career defining leadership opportunity at a critical moment for Australia's water future
Lead Australia's largest rural water corporation through climate, technological and sector transformation
Shape outcomes central to Australia's food security, regional prosperity and environmental sustainability
As Australia's largest rural water corporation, Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) sits at the heart of northern Victoria's agricultural economy, regional towns and natural environment. Managing more than $5.2 billion in critical water infrastructure and serving over 25,000 customers, GMW plays a central role in sustaining one of the nation's most productive food-producing regions while safeguarding long-term water security for communities and the environment. Water enhances quality of life across the region, supporting world-class agriculture, healthy communities, thriving ecosystems and recreational opportunities that contribute to wellbeing and connection.
The organisation is entering a pivotal period in its evolution, operating in an increasingly complex and contested landscape. Climate change, reduced water availability, rising costs, evolving regulation, increasing competition for water, Commonwealth legislative reforms and heightened customer expectations are reshaping the sector. At the same time, advances in technology, data and automation present significant opportunities to modernise services, improve customer experience and build a more adaptive and resilient water system. The decisions made in this period will define GMW's performance, relevance and impact for decades to come.
Reporting to a highly engaged and supportive Board, the Managing Director will lead GMW through this next phase of change and growth. You will be motivated by the mandate to lead a large critical infrastructure asset-intensive service delivery organisation serving communities across northern Victoria, balancing affordability, reliability and sustainability while delivering an ambitious strategy grounded in collaboration with customers, Traditional Owners, government and industry.
You will be recognised as an innovative, values-driven leader who creates opportunity and value for customers, stakeholders and the organisation, with a proven ability to lead change including digital projects in complex, regulated environments. With strong commercial and financial acumen, a performance and outcomes mindset and the ability to work constructively and in partnership with a Board, you will modernise systems, assets and ways of working. As a respected leader, you will provide visible, credible leadership across northern Victoria, representing the organisation with confidence and influence while shaping outcomes that support regional growth and resilience. You have or will quickly develop a deep understanding of the communities and industries you serve, engaging collaboratively across customers, government, industry and communities to deliver lasting impact for northern Victoria and Australia's water future.
This is a defining leadership opportunity to shape the future of water management in one of Australia's most important regions, leading an organisation of national significance with enduring impact across communities, industry and the environment.
