What's the role?
The Platform Discovery Engineer (ServiceNow Specialist) is part of the ServiceNow Platform Engineering team and is responsible for the design, operation, and continuous improvement of ServiceNow Discovery and CMDB capabilities across a large, complex enterprise environment. The role provides deep subject matter expertise in ServiceNow Discovery, ensuring configuration and relationship data remains accurate, current, and fit for purpose to support incident, problem, event, alert, change, security operations, and service management processes at scale.
Key responsibilities
* Own and operate ServiceNow Discovery across enterprise environments, including schedules, credentials, MID Server architecture, and platform currency.
* Design, develop, and optimise Discovery patterns, classifiers, probes, sensors, and targeted customisations to deliver accurate and sustainable outcomes.
* Troubleshoot and remediate Discovery failures, data gaps, credential issues, and performance constraints, including during platform upgrades.
* Ensure CMDB data quality, integrity, and relationship accuracy, and support Service Mapping where required, in alignment with enterprise standards.
* Act as a trusted advisor across Discovery, CMDB design, and platform upgrades, partnering with ITSM and ITOM teams and supporting L1/L2 uplift through guidance and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
* We are seeking a ServiceNow Discovery specialist with deep hands‐on platform experience who can operate confidently at enterprise scale.
* 5+ years' hands‐on experience with ServiceNow Discovery in large, complex enterprise environments.
* Strong ownership of the Discovery lifecycle, including schedules, credentials, and MID Servers.
* Deep understanding of ServiceNow CMDB, including IRE, CI lifecycle management, and relationship modelling.
* Strong JavaScript capability within ServiceNow Discovery and ITOM contexts.
* Experience developing and maintaining Discovery patterns, probes, sensors, and scripted logic.
* Solid understanding of enterprise infrastructure, including operating systems, networking, virtualization, cloud, and container platforms.
* Experience working in large, regulated environments; financial services experience is strongly preferred.
* The following certifications will be considered a plus and help demonstrate depth of ServiceNow capability:
o ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist – Discovery.
o ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist – Service Mapping.
o Cloud platform certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP) relevant to Discovery scope may also be beneficial.
