Senior Compositor Job Description
Founded by George Lucas, Industrial Light & Magic is the leading visual effects facility in the world. Our studios are located in San Francisco, Vancouver, London, Sydney, and Mumbai. We have created visual effects for over 325 feature films, contributing to seven of the top 10 worldwide box-office hits and 25 of the top 50.
As a Senior Compositor, you will be responsible for combining live action and computer-generated elements into visual effects shots. This requires realizing the vision and creative direction of the client and Visual Effects Supervisor. Your responsibilities will include working with live action plates, 2D tracking, matte extraction, layering elements, and color grading to create seamlessly integrated shots.
* Key Responsibilities:
o Evaluate approaches for assigned shots in collaboration with the Compositing Supervisor and VFX Supervisor.
o Create high-quality shots maintaining overall look, color balance, and quality for consistency.
o Participate in creative problem solving during dailies and team meetings.
o Mentor Apprentice/Jr. Artists and assist them with their shots.
o Meet project milestones within specified timelines.
Requirements and Qualifications:
We are looking for individuals with a strong foundation in fine arts, such as photography and photographic lighting, with a good sense of composition, color, and design. Experience in one area with willingness to learn is also acceptable. Ideally, we are looking for individuals with 3 years of relevant experience in feature films. Proven compositing skills demonstrated through a showreel are essential. Fluency in Nuke; Python and/or C++ experience is a plus. Ability to write Nuke gizmos is a plus. A reel or portfolio showcasing your work is highly recommended.
