About the opportunity
We are looking for an Area Manager to be responsible for the operational performance of approximately 2,100 ha of Macadamia orchards in the Fitzroy region. We are seeking someone with a proven understanding of macadamia orchard requirements, a commitment to precision and safety, with strong leadership capabilities. Reporting to the National Manager Macadamias your role will include:
* Leading developing and motivating the macadamia farming team.
* Coordinating orchard managers and supervisors and implementing operating programs
* Maintaining orchard records, analysing data entered to provide meaningful management reports and identifying operational issues and budget variances
* Participating in planning operations, contractor tenders and engagement
* Providing monthly reviews of forecasts with accounts and management
* Formulating and implementing agreed nutrition programs
* Overseeing and executing integrated pest and disease control programs
* Precisely monitoring tree health and yield to maximise orchard production
* Demonstrate commitment to safety, environmental, and equal opportunity standards by fostering a respectful and productive workplace, leading by example with safe work practices, adhering to WHS policies, supporting continuous improvement through collaboration and training, and ensuring all workers are informed, trained, and competent in their roles.
What you will need to be successful
The following criteria are essential to be successful in this position:
* Experience managing agricultural or horticultural operations, including financials
* Experience managing teams including employees, labour hire and contractors
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Excellent attention to detail
* Strong organisation and time management skills
* Project management experience
* Tertiary qualifications in horticulture, agriculture or related field will be highly regarded
* Prior experience and/or a background in a corporate agricultural environment will be highly regarded
* Safety training will be highly regarded
