Construction Project Engineer, Australia (3 Years Fixed Term)
The Construction Project Engineer serves as a key administrative and technical support resource throughout the execution, handover and closeout phases of construction projects. Operating as part of the Core Project Team, this role contributes to planning, site coordination and progress tracking while ensuring high standards of safety, quality and efficiency. The responsibilities include participating in project and safety meetings, supporting cost and schedule control, tracking procurement and labour, managing contractors and assisting with commissioning and closeout processes. The role demands strong field present, proactive risk mitigation and a collaborative mindset to align with stakeholder goals. A commitment to safety and quality as core values is essential.
The Position:
* Proactively Identify and address potential issues using technical problem solving skills to prevent execution delays and address performance concerns with urgency.
* Support the Project Manager in driving and ensuring adherence to project safety standards in alignment with the site-specific safety plan.
* Contribute to onsite quality control efforts by reviewing preconstruction documents, conducting site inspections and supporting QA/QC testing efforts.
* Actively participate and provide feedback in the constructability review process to enhance design feasibility and execution
* Assist the Tendering Committee on subcontracting process and purchase order preparation.
* Support the change management process and activities, including the input and tracking of all changes as issues and pending change orders
* Assist in the development and ongoing updates of the project schedule alongside the Project Manager.
* Prepare and maintain meeting documentation, including kick-off meeting notes and weekly subcontractor meeting minutes.
* Submit, track response and issue Requests for Information (RFI), when required to ensure project clarity and coordination
* Log and track all review shop drawings and submittals, including obtaining and tracking all subcontractor warranty certifications and closeout manuals.
* In conjunction with key stakeholders ensure and maintain compliance with safety procedures and statutory regulations.
* Manage supplier relationships to ensure timely and accurate project execution.
The Ideal Candidate:
* Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction industry, specifically in project roles within the chemical/manufacturing sector.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify issues, develop practical solutions and make confident and decision actions
* Proven ability to collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, including field teams to ensure smooth operations.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
* Highly organized with the ability to thrive in fast-paced environments
* Skills in managing multiple tasks simultaneously and delivering results within tight deadlines
* Holds a current and unrestricted driver's license valid in New South Wales (NSW)
* Skilled in the use of AutoCAD, Navisworks, Microsoft project and Microsoft Office Suite
