We are delivering a major $80 million fit-out and refurbishment project in Brisbane and are seeking a Design Manager / Senior Project Engineer to lead the design and technical delivery on-site. This is a senior, hands-on role overseeing engineering coordination, design management, and the technical execution of a complex, high-specification project.
The Role
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will take ownership of the project's design and technical outcomes, ensuring designs are coordinated, constructible, and delivered on time and within budget. You will liaise closely with consultants, contractors, and stakeholders, providing technical leadership and advice throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate all design activities, including consultant management and shop drawing review
* Provide technical guidance and oversight to the delivery team and subcontractors
* Ensure design compliance with Australian standards, specifications, and QA requirements
* Support project planning, programming, and coordination between design and construction teams
* Track design progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies
* Review engineering deliverables and technical submissions
* Liaise with stakeholders to resolve technical issues and provide solutions
* Contribute to cost management and assist in reviewing variations and claims where design impacts budgets
About You
* Degree-qualified in Engineering, Construction, Architecture, or related discipline
* Extensive experience as a Senior Project Engineer or Design Manager on fit-out, refurbishments
* Strong understanding of design coordination, construction methodology, and QA processes
* Skilled in leading multi-disciplinary design teams and managing consultants
* Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
* Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-value, and complex project environment
* Experience in high-end, live, or technical projects will be highly regarded.
