About The Department
Alfred Health Pharmacy is recognised for high quality and innovative patient-focused services, education and training programmes, and research output. The department operates across four sites within Alfred Health and supports postgraduate learning and research with mentors to foster staff development. The service priorities are: Practice, Education, and Research. About The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic hospital leader to join the Alfred Pharmacy Executive Leadership team as the Quality Use of Medicines Director. You will lead strategic and operational efforts in medication safety, formulary management, medicines information, and stewardship programs (Analgesic, Antimicrobial, Anticoagulant), in partnership with Lead Pharmacists in the directorate. You will oversee the operations of the Medication Safety and Drugs and Therapeutics Committees, collaborate with the Formulary Manager and the Medication Safety Lead, and work with clinical, operational and executive stakeholders to develop and implement policies and strategies for optimal medication use. A key focus is ensuring Alfred Health’s preparedness for accreditation under Standard 4 of the Short Notice Accreditation Assessment Program (SNAAP). The Director will oversee Pharmacy Department operational services including dispensaries, aseptic services and the pharmacy clinical trials service with support from the Deputy Director of Pharmacy Operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead strategic and operational efforts in medication safety, formulary management and stewardship programs.
* Oversee Medication Safety and Drugs and Therapeutics Committees; collaborate with Formulary Manager and Medication Safety Lead.
* Develop and implement policies, protocols and strategies for optimal medication use in partnership with stakeholders.
* Ensure preparedness for accreditation under the Short Notice Accreditation Assessment Program (SNAAP).
* Manage operational services of the Pharmacy Department (dispensaries, aseptic service, pharmacy clinical trials) with support from the Deputy Director of Pharmacy Operations.

Qualifications & Experience
* Registered pharmacist in Australia
* Post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy, public health, healthcare management or equivalent
* Extensive hospital pharmacy experience in a senior leadership position with contemporary practice in hospital pharmacy services
* Leadership experience in clinical governance related to medication use and safety (desirable)
* Experience monitoring and evaluating strategies to improve medication use and safety (desirable)
* Experience in design, delivery and evaluation of stewardship programs (desirable)
* Extensive clinical practice at an advanced level and/or diverse clinical environments (desirable)
* Research experience including presenting and publishing findings (desirable)
* Proven track record in managing clinical staff and fostering clinician relationships (highly regarded)
* Experience horizon scanning and developing innovative processes for local implementation (desirable)
