About the team
The Women’s Mental Health Service consists of 2 F/T psychiatry Registrars, several consultants, CL MH clinicians, and clinical psychologists. It provides a comprehensive Psychiatry CL service, OP Perinatal and Gynecology service, as well as a WADS (addiction in pregnancy) service. There is ongoing teaching and mentoring for stage 3 Registrars wanting experience in CL, Perinatal, and Women’s MH. There will be opportunities for observing antenatal psychology groups and following up cases for short-term interventions.
About the role
The Psychiatry Registrar will contribute to the provision of an effective and efficient consultation-liaison psychiatry service to meet the needs of women who are inpatients or outpatients of RWH with mental health problems. Registrars will undertake various training opportunities in clinical and teaching aspects of Women’s Mental Health.
A typical day will include:
1. Providing a consultation-liaison perinatal service to women with mental health issues, including assessment and management of antenatal and postnatal patients, gynecology, oncology, and other women’s health patients, as well as involvement with NICU families.
2. Collaborating with other staff/units of RWH to provide advice, consultation, and support for women with mental health problems.
3. Contributing to teaching in women’s mental health for undergraduate students.
4. Participating in education and training for RWH staff regarding women’s mental health, targeting maternity, gynecology, medical, midwifery, and nursing colleagues.
About you
We are ideally seeking a 4th or 5th-year trainee capable of working within an MDT and autonomously as appropriate. The CL setting requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to de-escalate patients, and to manage staff anxieties around challenging patients.
You will need:
* Registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA.
* Current trainee status within the Victorian RANZCP Psychiatry Training Program.
* Preferably Stage 3 Advanced Trainees in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Generalist, or Adult psychiatry training; Stage 2 trainees may also be considered.
* Proven ability to work both as part of a team and independently.
The classification and salary will depend on experience, in accordance with the Australian Medical Association (Victoria) Doctors in Training Agreement 2022-2026.
