EXECUTIVE MANAGER, GOVERNMENT & INDUSTRY AFFAIRS See Yourself In Our Team The Government & Industry Affairs team advances and safeguards CBA’s interests by leading engagement with federal and state governments, senior public servants, and key stakeholders to shape public policy outcomes aligned with CBA’s values, our customers’ needs and our strategic priorities. The team works directly with governments and in partnership with industry bodies—particularly the Australian Banking Association (ABA) and the Business Council of Australia (BCA)—to influence policy development and regulatory settings that support a strong financial system, and deliver positive outcomes for customers, shareholders, and the community. Do work that matters Reporting to the General Manager – Government and Industry Affairs, the responsibilities include: Design and deliver campaign and advocacy plans that influence public policy and regulatory outcomes, strengthen CBA’s reputation, and support customer, commercial, and community objectives in line with Group strategy and values. Build and maintain strong partnerships with industry bodies, peak associations and, where possible, work together on advocacy efforts and policy issues. Together with others in the Government and Industry Affairs team, help drive engagement with federal ministers, parliamentarians, senior advisers, and Commonwealth departments, and maintain effective relationships with key state and territory governments and agencies. Provide timely and practical advice to senior leadership on current and emerging public policy and regulatory issues. Play a role in preparing and supporting senior executives and subject matter experts for engagement with politicians, senior public servants, regulators and industry leaders, ensuring consistent and persuasive advocacy. Research, monitor and analyse political, regulatory and policy developments, proactively identifying risks, opportunities and emerging issues with potential business, customer, community or reputational impact. Produce clear, persuasive and timely briefing materials, submissions (including to parliamentary inquiries) and related materials. Represent CBA externally at conferences, industry forums and stakeholder meetings. Play a key role in planning, including reporting to senior executives. Lead, develop and manage a small team. Identify, assess and manage risks to ensure compliance with internal policies and external obligations. We’re interested in hearing from people who have: · Demonstrated expertise in policy campaigning and advocacy, with a proven record of influencing public policy, regulatory outcomes, or key decision-makers. · Proven capacity to design and deliver effective advocacy strategies, integrating research, messaging, and engagement approaches to achieve policy objectives. · Strong understanding of public policy development processes, including political, legislative, regulatory, and stakeholder environments. · Strong analytical skills to assess the business and operational impacts of policy or regulatory change. · Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing clear, persuasive policy submissions, briefs, and campaign materials. · Demonstrated capability to build and manage relationships with key stakeholders, including government, industry, community organisations, and partners. · Outstanding interpersonal skills, with a track record of contributing to a positive team culture. · Sound judgement, discretion, and professionalism. · Capacity to perform effectively under pressure while managing multiple time-sensitive priorities. · Experience in government, banking, finance, or a related field, is highly regarded.
