COMPANY

This Australian-owned steel trading business specialises in the import and distribution of structural and merchant steel products into the Australian construction, manufacturing and infrastructure sectors.

Their product portfolio includes structural steel sections (UB, UC, PFC), plate, sheet, coil, merchant bar, hollow sections and fabricated steel components. These products are sourced through established international mills and supply partners, enabling the business to remain competitive on both price and availability.

Backed by a well-established international logistics and supply chain group with decades of experience, the business has built a strong reputation for reliability, responsiveness and tailored customer solutions. With continued growth and increasing demand across multiple sectors, the company is expanding its commercial team in Brisbane.

OPPORTUNITY

This is a pivotal, revenue-generating role focused on managing key accounts while driving new business growth across Australia.

You will be responsible for supplying steel into a broad customer base including steel fabricators, commercial builders, civil contractors, manufacturers, engineering workshops and steel resellers. The role will see you engaging across both project-based and ongoing supply agreements, working closely with customers to understand their pipeline and procurement needs.

With a lean team structure, this role offers a high level of autonomy. You will have the opportunity to build your own portfolio, leverage existing relationships and identify new market opportunities across commercial construction, infrastructure projects and industrial manufacturing.

Regular travel will be required to maintain strong face‐to‐face relationships and uncover new opportunities nationally.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Manage and grow a portfolio of key accounts across construction, fabrication and manufacturing sectors
* Identify and secure new business opportunities through proactive prospecting, networking and relationship building
* Supply a range of imported steel products including structural sections, plate, sheet, coil and merchant bar
* Work closely with customers to understand project pipelines, tender opportunities and ongoing supply requirements
* Liaise with international suppliers and internal stakeholders to source and deliver fit‐for‐purpose steel solutions
* Develop relationships with procurement managers, estimators, project managers and business owners
* Attend client meetings, site visits and industry events to strengthen market presence and generate leads
* Maintain an active sales pipeline, delivering accurate forecasting, reporting and budgeting
* Contribute to pricing strategies, margin management and commercial negotiations
* Provide market feedback to support product development and sourcing decisions

CANDIDATE

* Proven experience in steel sales, steel distribution or steel trading (ideal)
* Strong understanding of steel products such as structural steel, plate, sheet, coil or merchant bar
* Established network across fabricators, builders, contractors, manufacturers or steel resellers
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the importation of steel products from overseas mills and manufacturers
* Demonstrated success in new business development and account growth
* Ability to identify project opportunities and convert them into ongoing supply relationships
* Commercially astute with strong negotiation and pricing capability
* Self‐motivated and comfortable operating autonomously within a small team
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Willingness to travel nationally as required
