In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.Role and responsibilitiesAs our Fixed Term Safety Officer, some of your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:Maintain an inventory of facilities, equipment and infrastructure that must be inspected regularly in the assigned area of responsibility.Maintain an updated schedule of inspections that covers all facilities, equipment and infrastructure that must be inspected regularly in the assigned area of responsibility.Conduct physical condition inspections per the approved schedule, communicating findings to and ensuring sign-off by the relevant legal appointees.Assess and inspect associated documentation.Discuss, record and sign off on findings in the logbook.Capture relevant information on the applicable company system, such as Isometrix, and verify effective close-out of previous findings.Investigations:Assist and participate in the incident investigation per the Anglo requirements.Investigate damages, MTCs, FACs, and near misses as required.Compile investigation reports and obtain necessary sign-off and copies of associated documents.Capture incidents and related actions on the relevant systems such as Isometrix.Follow up on the close-out of corrective actions.Report, capture, and verify the close-out of High Potential Hazards from assigned areas of responsibility.Promoting Safety Culture:Actively participate in Safety initiatives (e.g., Hazard hunts and HPH reporting).
Conduct and/or participate in Internal Audits in areas of responsibility and other areas as assigned.Execute the Emergency drills in assigned areas of responsibility.Access safety statistics to identify trends and areas for improvement.Contractor Management and Coaching:Conduct safety inspections on Service Providers.Weekly over inspection on Service Providers and consolidation of reports.Assist contractors and SHE Representatives in their areas of responsibility.Reporting:Prepare and submit a weekly SHE Officer report using prescribed templates or format.Execute scheduled physical condition inspections and ensure necessary documentation is completed accurately and on time.Discuss, document, and provide sign-off for all findings in the logbook.Collect information using Isometrix and ensure all previous findings have been closed out.Prepare and finalise reports, obtain sign-off, and ensure all associated documents are correctly stored and maintained.Follow up on corrective actions to ensure they have been implemented effectively.Execute the investigation and submission of High Potential Hazards and ensure they are addressed promptly and effectively.Actively participate in Safety initiatives such as VFL to increase awareness and promote a safety culture.Conduct internal audits in respective areas to identify potential safety hazards or risks and take necessary steps to address them.Execute emergency drills to ensure all employees are prepared and know what to do in an emergency.Role level and reportingThis role is in the Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) NC discipline at a 7.8 level, reporting to the Section Manager Safety.QualificationsGrade 12Higher Certificate in Safety Management (NQF5)National Diploma (NQF Level 6) – AdvantageousSA Driver's LicenseMedical Fitness CertificateAdvantageousSAMTRAC Mining or COMSOC 1 & 2 (Advantageous)A3 Risk Management (Advantageous)Learning from Incidents course (Advantageous)Passport 360 and ISOMETRIXAdditional InformationWho we are?
