The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a commercial lawyer, with experience in and/or enthusiasm for supporting eCommerce and digital businesses. As a member of our highly capable and collegiate legal team, you’ll have opportunities to work collaboratively with and learn from other lawyers and external legal partners, and support business units to achieve their strategic priorities, by sharing your knowledge and insights and managing a range of matters.The role is a permanent full time role, based in our Surry Hills, Sydney office. Our team values in person team time, as well as flexibility (including regular working from home arrangements and working from other offices including the Group’s Bella Vista head office).
What you’ll do
In this role, you will provide day-to-day strategic and commercial legal advice to a range of stakeholders within the WooliesX eCommerce team, in particular the eCom online retail and fulfilment business for B2C and B2B customers (Woolworths Online, Woolworths at Work and Homerun) and the Everyday Rewards loyalty business.
In particular, you will be responsible for:
* Provide commercial and regulatory legal support for the operation of Woolworths’ digital food and everyday needs businesses
* Drafting and negotiating contracts with suppliers and customer, with support from senior lawyers as required.
* Working in collaboration with legal colleagues and business stakeholders to provide end to end legal advice.
* Understanding our digital businesses, with a view to providing proactive legal support and advice.
* Researching and providing consumer law, regulatory and product compliance advice.
What you’ll bring
We are seeking a proactive, collaborative and curious lawyer, able to demonstrate the following:
* Bachelor of Laws with 2-4 PQE legal experience (preferably gained with a reputable law firm or in-house), with proven contract drafting and negotiation experience.
* Experience in advising on, and developed knowledge of, Australian consumer law, including in respect of consumer complaints
* Experience in marketing clearances, providing advice in relation to marketing of restricted products is desirable.
* Confidence to work independently, with the judgement to escalate where required.
* Sound legal and commercial judgement and a problem solving mindset..
* Excellent interpersonal skills, with the capacity to deal confidently with stakeholders across our business.
