Baiada is seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Manager to join our team at our Tamworth processing facility, located at the Corner Out and Bridge Streets.
Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of day-to-day operations of the Quality and Food Safety System (QMS) in order to comply with legislative (including Trade Measurement Laws and Export Acts), Baiada’s quality and customer requirements for certification on their site.
This exciting opportunity will suit a candidate that has the drive to focus on continuous improvement and is results driven. In addition, the candidate should possess excellent communication skills with a Food Science background or similar related discipline.
Key responsibilities:
* Achieve optimal food safety and quality as per customer and legislative requirements.
* Implement food safety and quality management strategies in accordance with legislative (including Trade Measurement Laws and Export Acts) requirements to achieve the overall business goals in relation to food safety and quality.
* Responsible for maintaining site-based internal auditing team, ensuring that they audit within the required scope so as to standardise procedures and processes within their area of responsibility.
* Execute the Food Safety and Quality Culture procedure through day to day work in a safe manner and driving production of safe products that are fit for consumption in accordance with legislative, local state food authority, customer and Baiada specific requirements.
* Responsible for microbiological analysis and evaluation in all areas under their responsibility.
* Be responsible for project work as and when assigned and assist in the analysis and evaluation of all shelf life trials and tests.
* Review, maintain and communicate food safety and quality policies and procedures, to ensure a consistent approach within their site.
* Prepare and implement food safety and quality initiatives which are cost effective and improve shelf life and maintain product safety and quality.
* Assist and advise managers in relation to food safety legislation and quality guidelines to ensure that all measures are being applied in a compliant and cohesive manner.
* Conduct food safety and quality audits to identify potential shortfalls, review the implementation of food safety and quality processes and assess risks across the business.
* Be a point of contact for managers in relation to the management of change, which includes implementation of new processes, plant, and chemicals and advice on the food safety and quality requirements.
* Manage, conduct and oversee investigations to ensure that the root causes of incidents and complaints are identified so that appropriate measures can be adopted to reduce and prevent further incidents.
* Champion a culture of food safety and quality awareness and compliance to all employees, through the regular delivery of communication sessions, tool box talks and training programs.
* Manage data within the food safety and quality databases to ensure they are maintained with accurate and timely information for the proactive management of food safety compliance within their site.
* Support and manage regulatory, certification and customer site inspections and audits.
* Involvement in food safety and quality projects, as required.
Essential skills:
* Extensive previous experience in food processing and distribution.
* Knowledge of food science / related agricultural science/ safety or relevant industry experience and training (must include HACCP, SQF and GMP).
* Excellent leadership skills including conflict resolution and problem solving.
Current state drivers’ licence.
* Excellent people and communication skills, both written and oral.
* Knowledge of all processes within scope of the role.
* Ability to make quick and correct decisions “on the job” and long-term decisions.
* Well-developed problem-solving skills.
* Ability to use Microsoft Office, ELO and iLeader applications.
* Excellent time management skills.
* Ability to achieve departmental targets (meet Baiada guidelines).
* Experience in or knowledge of further processing and how it can impact on legal requirements in terms of food safety and quality risks.
