A Senior FX Artist at Fin Design + Effects is an independent seasoned artist that is capable of developing multi layered setups across dozens, sometimes hundreds of shots while maintaining flexibility to be able to respond to supervisor's or client's feedback. You will be responsible for creating and setting up realistic or stylized FX that simulate natural or magical phenomena while creatively contributing ideas and options to meet the brief. Collaborating closely with CG supervisors, lighting, compositing team, and pipeline developers, you will ensure that FX elements are delivered at the highest level and in line with both artistic direction and production deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop procedural and simulation based FX .
- Apply lighting and shaders to FX elements for final rendering or hand off simulations to the Lighting department.
- Collaborate closely with other departments to ensure high-quality shot delivery.
- Work within the FX team to conceptualize and implement creative design solutions.
- Design and create FX imagery, procedural elements, tools, and pipelines.
- Contribute to the development of procedural workflows and tools.
- Produce composited previews of FX elements for review; in some cases, deliver final renders.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with Production and Leads on schedules and deadlines.
- Complete assigned shots independently or as part of a team, adapting to feedback and direction.
- Submit work for review and make revisions as needed based on notes.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- A degree or diploma relevant to visual effects or computer graphics, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a film VFX pipeline.
- High proficiency in Houdini .
- Strong understanding of FX simulation techniques and procedural animation workflows.
- Proven experience creating a wide range of effects.
- Familiarity with render engines such as Karma, Arnold or Renderman.
- Experience working across multiple software packages and managing pipeline integration.
- Working knowledge of compositing tools (e.g., Nuke) and the overall compositing process.
- Strong scripting skills in python and VEX.
- Keen eye for physical accuracy in movement, weight, and timing.
- Ability to gather and apply visual reference materials effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both technical and creative.
- Flexibility and openness to feedback, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and adapting to changes.
