We are recruiting on behalf of a well-regarded government department for a number of labour hire policy roles to support a range of high‑impact projects. These roles are offered via labour‑hire arrangements through to 30 June 2026 with the possibility of extension.
About the Division
The Division contributes to national wellbeing by developing and implementing reforms across surface transport policy and regulation - including maritime, shipping, rail and road. The work supports efficient, productive, safe and sustainable outcomes that enhance Australia’s international competitiveness.
Across the division, you will have the opportunity to influence reforms that shape how people and goods move across Australia.
Role Details
Classification: APS5, APS6, Executive Level 1
Employment Type: Labour hire to 30 June 2026 (possible extension)
Security Clearance: Baseline (essential)
Hours: 37.5 per week
Location: Canberra preferred - flexible arrangements available, including other departmental offices and hybrid work.
What You Will Do
You will contribute to policy development and advice through short and medium term projects determined by the Executive Leadership Team. Typical duties include:
* Research and analysis on priority issues (including economic or data analysis depending on skills).
* Preparing persuasive written materials, reports and data visualisation.
* Project planning, coordination and strategy development.
* Stakeholder engagement across government, regulators, industry and community groups.
* Preparing formal advice to the Executive and Government, including Cabinet submissions and policy proposals.
Who We’re Looking For
Ideal candidates will bring:
* Strong analytical skills and sound policy judgement.
* Ability to synthesise information, identify issues and propose solutions.
* Clear and effective written and verbal communication.
* Strong stakeholder engagement capability.
* A collaborative working style that values diverse perspectives.
* Experience in Commonwealth/State relations, complex policy environments, legal policy, intergovernmental reforms, program work or regulatory settings (highly regarded).
We are particularly interested in candidates who:
* Hold a current Baseline clearance.
* Are available to start immediately.
* Can commit to the full engagement period.
