Quality Manager – Pathology

4Cyte Pathology is a rapidly expanding Australian private pathology provider, with our main laboratory based in Sydney and interstate branch laboratories across Victoria and Queensland. We are seeking an experienced and practical Quality Manager to lead and further strengthen our quality, risk, accreditation and governance framework as the organisation continues to grow.

This is a full-time permanent role, based in Sydney, working closely with laboratory leadership and operational teams across multiple states.

Reporting Line

The Quality Manager will report directly to the Laboratory Manager and the Medical Director and will work closely with department supervisors, operations managers, and senior leadership team.

About the Role

The Quality Manager is responsible for the end-to-end leadership of quality, risk, and accreditation activities across 4Cyte Pathology. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical expertise, sound judgement, and the ability to work directly with staff to identify issues, implement solutions, and embed sustainable improvement.

You will lead internal audits, oversee external accreditation processes, provide practical support to laboratories, and drive a strong quality and governance culture across the organisation.

Essential Criteria

* Bachelor of Science or equivalent qualification (medical science or related discipline).
* Demonstrated experience working in the Australian pathology environment.
* Extensive experience in pathology accreditation, including ISO 15189 and relevant NPAAC requirements.
* Demonstrated experience leading internal and external audits, including audit planning, execution, reporting, and close-out.
* Strong experience in audit report writing using appropriate accreditation language.
* Sound understanding of clinical governance, quality and risk management in pathology laboratories.
* Demonstrated ability to apply risk-based thinking and make decisions based on evidence.
* Proven leadership capability, including coaching, mentoring, and supporting supervisors and staff.
* Demonstrated experience engaging with large private organisations, public health services, and accreditation bodies.
* Excellent planning, organisational, and time management skills.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to influence and negotiate.

Primary Responsibilities

* Lead and oversee the internal audit programme, including planning, conducting audits, managing responses, and closing findings.
* Represent 4Cyte Pathology during external audits, working with managers and supervisors to ensure findings are appropriately addressed.
* Ensure audit findings and non-conformances are addressed at both local and corporate levels.
* Provide hands-on support to laboratories in remediating gaps and strengthening compliance.
* Maintain oversight of accreditation readiness across all sites.
* Provide regular reporting to senior leadership on quality, risk, audit outcomes, and emerging issues.

Other Responsibilities

* Participate in and lead quality improvement and risk management activities.
* Chair or co-chair relevant quality and governance meetings.
* Act as (or provide oversight for) the administrator of the electronic quality management system.
* Support managers and supervisors with quality, risk, and accreditation requirements.
* Stay current with changes to accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and best practice, and ensure these are embedded across the organisation.

Screening Question

As part of your application, please respond to the following scenarios:

1. During an audit, you identify gaps in an equipment maintenance record. Upon discussion, you are advised that the equipment is not used daily and maintenance is not performed when it is not in use.
2. During an audit, you identify a quality control result outside acceptable limits, however no investigation or follow-up records are available.

For each scenario, please:

* Determine whether the situation meets accreditation requirements.
* Quote the relevant standard(s), requirement(s), and clause(s).
* Draft a condition/non-conformance as it would appear in an audit report.

Application Process

Please submit:

* A current curriculum vitae.
* A response addressing the essential criteria.
* Your response to the screening question.

Remuneration will be negotiated with the successful candidate, commensurate with experience.

Applicants must have the right to work in Australia.
