Provide general and political advice to the Minister across portfolios and parliamentary responsibilities that are consistent with the objectives of the government.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide the Minister with advice on strategic issues, policy proposals and submissions.
- Keep the Minister abreast of significant developments and issues relevant to their portfolios.
- Assist the Senior Advisor to manage the office operations and work to ensure a robust positive culture of performance.
- Develop relationships with key stakeholder groups relevant to the portfolio(s) of the Minister.
- Maintain effective communications with relevant government departments and external stakeholders so that up-to-date information is available to better inform discussions, policy, risk management and planning.
- Ensure that the Minister is appropriately briefed for all Parliamentary responsibilities.
- Prepare briefings, correspondence, speeches and reports as required.
- Work closely with the Senior Adviser to support the Minister.
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement with sensitivity to individual, community and political needs.
- Strong time management, planning and organisational skills, capacity to set priorities, balance competing tasks and meet deadlines.
- Sound knowledge or understanding of government and political processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of or experience in the portfolio areas relevant to the position, ideally within a Northern Territory context.
