About the Role – Art Centre Manager
The Baaka Art Centre is in startup stage and needs an art centre manager to oversee daily operations and a multi‐faceted artistic program, building on existing successes of established artists in the region and supporting emerging and mid‐career artists to create high quality art.
Responsibilities
* Manage day‐to‐day operations of the art centre including correspondence, financial management, governance, sales and promotion, staff supervision and artistic and career development of artists.
* Prepare submissions for funding bodies, acquire funding in consultation with the Executive Director, and prepare mid‐year reports and acquittals for submission to those bodies.
* Financial management – banking, bookkeeping, working closely with accountants and auditors, and reporting to the Executive Director.
* Maintain equipment, buildings and facilities ensuring they meet OH&S standards.
* Manage your team and market the centre locally, nationally and internationally through exhibitions, projects, prizes and advocacy activities.
* Administer artists' copyright and intellectual property, including license agreements.
* Adhere to the centre's programmes and business plan in accordance with funding requirements and guidelines.
* Recognise and respect traditional law and leadership frameworks that impact governance.
* Maintain a cooperative, flexible and harmonious relationship with community members, council, local organisations and external stakeholders.
Selection Criteria
* Tertiary qualifications in business, community development or arts management or similar, or extensive demonstrated relevant professional experience.
* Experience working with and supporting artists to create high‐quality art and managing a multi‐faceted artistic program.
* Demonstrated management skills including strategic, business, governance and cultural aspects of working for an Aboriginal Corporation.
* Demonstrated financial experience in securing funding, budgeting and managing assets.
* Knowledge of contemporary Aboriginal and broader visual arts industry, prizes, art markets and exhibition opportunities for emerging and established artists.
* High‐level experience in arts marketing, digital and online sales.
* Highly developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including cultural competency and ability to communicate in an intercultural, multidisciplinary environment.
* Experience forming and maintaining diverse stakeholder relationships.
* Experience in staff mentoring and training and employment and skills‐development programs.
* Demonstrated ability in stress and time management, engaging positive coping and self‐care strategies and responding to situations flexibly, practically and culturally appropriately.
* A current driver's licence and ability to drive a manual 4WD.
Highly Desirable
* Ability to take high‐quality photographs with a digital SLR camera.
* Adobe Creative Suite skills.
* Previous experience living in a remote context.
Salary Package
* Award: Employment conditions comply with the Amusement, Events and Recreation Award 2010.
* Renumeration: Base salary $95,000 per annum plus allowances, subject to qualifications and experience. 12‐month renewable contract offered.
* Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday 9 am‐5 pm with occasional out‐of‐hours work.
* Annual leave: Six (6) weeks plus standard leave benefits.
* Time off in Lieu (TOIL): Available where approved by the manager/board, adding five days leave every three months.
* Annual leave travel assistance: Provided following 12 months of service.
* Relocation assistance: Applicable to this position.
* Long service leave: Paid in accordance with the Long Service Leave Act 1987.
* Driver's Licence: Essential requirement; must hold a current Class C Manual licence or be able to obtain one.
* Superannuation: Contributions of 12 % as per legislative requirements.

Conditions specific to Baaka Culture and Art Centre
* Staff must abide by community by‐laws, the Baaka Culture and Art Centre Code of Conduct, community cultural protocols and relevant sections of the Indigenous Australian Aboriginal Art Code.
* Purchase of artworks follows the Baaka Culture and Art Centre Policy and Procedure manual.
* Staff must recognise the limited budget and adapt operational decisions accordingly.
Successful Candidates
* Police Clearance: Candidate will be required to provide a National Police Clearance Certificate before commencement; costs are the applicant's responsibility.
* Probationary Period: Three‐month probation; performance review at end of period. Continuing employment subject to satisfactory performance.
