The Adult Survivor Program has an opportunity for a Female Social Worker to champion the implementation and rollout of this new initiative.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of an innovative program. You will have the chance to influence and shape the way the program works to deliver specialised therapeutic services to adult survivors of sexual assault.
This includes leading therapeutic practices in both individual and group settings across the district. The role is dedicated to supporting and nurturing the practice and skills of Health professionals to provide trauma informed responses to adult survivors who present to services in South West Sydney.
What You'll be Doing
The Educator / Clinical Coordinator - Adult Survivors Program will provide advanced clinical, strategic, educational and programmatic expertise and leadership in the establishment and implementation of NSW Health’s new Adult Survivors Program – a specialist integrated program for adult survivors of child sexual abuse with complex needs across the Local Health District.
The Adult Survivor Program (ASP) sits within the Staying Safe in Community (PARVAN) Directorate in Primary and Community Health.
The Adult Survivors Program is a significant reform initiative being implemented by NSW Health in response to findings from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The program aims to improve outcomes for adult survivors of child sexual abuse, with a particular focus on survivors of complex trauma with mental health and alcohol and other drug support needs. The program model takes a hybrid strategic-clinical approach with a strong focus on this role being able to support, lead and supervise clinicians work with clients within a trauma informed therapeutic framework.
The Educator / Clinical Coordinator - Adult Survivors Program will provide both direct (clinical) interventions for adult survivors with complex needs related to mental health and alcohol and other drugs use, as well indirect (strategic governance, leadership and capacity building) interventions for NSW Health professionals and partner services.
The Educator / Clinical Coordinator - Adult Survivors Program will hold responsibility for the design, management, and delivery of this new local specialist integrated program. This role will work in close partnership with the Program Manager – Adult Survivors Program to perform novel and complex clinical and strategic work, using high level of professional knowledge and judgement. It is expected that the Educator Clinical Coordinator - Adult Survivors Program will work with minimal direction to establish an innovative service which aligns with NSW Health and Violence, Abuse and Neglect Redesign values and goals.
The Educator / Clinical Coordinator - Adult Survivors Program will work from a strengths-based, family-centred, culturally appropriate and trauma informed approach. This role will be required to build collaborative clinical relationships, design, facilitate professional education and capacity building initiatives with multiple service types that are accessed by adult survivors with complex needs, including sexual assault services (SAS) and other Violence, Abuse and Neglect (VAN) services, mental health and alcohol and other drug services, Aboriginal health services and community-based support services.
This role will provide advanced leadership and advice on high-quality therapeutic and clinical practice with adult survivors, that promotes an evidence-based shift towards flexible, responsive, needs-based and client-centred clinical practice and away from more traditional medical, diagnostic, treatment and referral approaches.
This role is expected to hold a small client load to maintain clinical currency and will lead manage and supervise relevant clinical staff, inclusive of SAS, and participate in 24/7 sexual assault roster.

1. A bachelor’s degree in Social Work which provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Work.
2. Diploma of Training and assessment or certificate IV in training and assessment or an interest in furthering own development in providing education and training to Health Professionals.
3. Extensive post graduate clinical experience in trauma specific service provision with adult survivors of child sexual abuse with complex trauma (mental health and/or alcohol and other drug issues) and commitment to establish innovative, integrated ways of working within services and clients who have experienced trauma and abuse, in line with NSW Health organizational values and goals.
4. Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels.
5. Proven ability to provide high level clinical/therapeutic advice and education to enhance service delivery including demonstrated capacity to provide clinical supervision around violence abuse and neglect issues, in addition to a demonstrated commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning.
6. Ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities.
7. Current unrestricted Australian drivers licence (P2 Licence Acceptable) subject to obtaining NSW drivers licence within 3 months of appointment.
