As the operator of critical infrastructure in Tasmania, TasNetworks requires a robust, secure and efficient digital environment to support business operations and deliver for our customers. Within TasNetworks this is the responsibility of the Digital team who manage all aspects of IT for the organisation from end user compute to cloud services.
Under the Digital team banner, the Infrastructure team is responsible for overseeing and operating an extensive network of IT assets across the state. From voice and wireless services to datacenter fabrics to commercial services supporting the operation of other large Tasmanian organisations, we manage all phases of platform and infrastructure delivery.
We're looking for an Infrastructure Engineer with a focus on networking skills to join our Digital team and play a key role in supporting both day‑to‑day operations and key digital projects, ensuring our infrastructure platforms meet the needs of the business and our customers.
What You'll Be Doing
* Directly supporting and operating:
o 900+ staff
o 300+ access points statewide
o 150+ switches and routers
o Commercial datacenters and private server room facilities
o 30+ voice systems
o 30+ hypervisors with 1000+ virtual machines
* Delivering secure, robust and efficient infrastructure platforms for TasNetworks and our customers
* Supporting and operating IT infrastructure underpinning commercial IT customers across a number of industry verticals
About You
Our ideal candidate will offer expert technical ability and excellent interpersonal skills. You will be self‑motivated with excellent problem‑solving ability.
You Will Have
* 3+ years of hands‑on experience with one or more of the following:
o Layer‑2 and/or layer‑3 switch configuration and management
o Layer‑3 router configuration and management
o Firewall configuration and management
o Wireless infrastructure configuration and management
* Demonstrated troubleshooting capabilities in complex or unfamiliar environments
* Excellent organisation and time management skills
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders
* Capable and available to attend to enquiries on an 'on call' roster
It would be advantageous, but not required, for you to have any of the below:
* A current driver's license
* Familiarity with Cisco switching and routing, datacenter or security product lines
* Familiarity with layer‑3 routing and dynamic routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF
* Familiarity with monitoring protocols such as SNMP and open/vendor APIs
* Familiarity with TDM and/or VoIP technologies
* Familiarity with or exposure to working within change management frameworks
* Exposure to or familiarity with operational technology environments

This is a permanent full‑time opportunity based out of any of our major depots – Hobart, Rocherlea or Devonport – offering an attractive remuneration and benefits package.
