About us
The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.
The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), as well as the broader department which work together to pre-empt, prevent, mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state.

Purpose of role
The Information Management Unit ensures that QFD information and records resources are managed as a strategic asset, are trusted and accurate, support service delivery, are managed securely, meet compliance requirements, support decision making, provide predictive insights and help measure our performance as a department. The unit also contributes to the formulation of strategy and policy solutions to build and retain an inclusive, diverse and capable workforce, and works closely with stakeholders and partners to ensure delivery of contemporary, best practice.
Reporting to the Executive Manager, Web, Data and Information Management you will be a key member of the team responsible for managing and contributing to the development and delivery of information and records management initiatives, including the development of strategies policies and standards. Your role is expected to drive, promote and commit to best business continuity and risk practices to meet departmental strategic objectives and legislative responsibilities.
Key requirements
Highly desirable requirements
* Knowledge and experience of records management principles, practices, and relevant legislation. ability to provide expert guidance on how to manage and maintain information and records, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and Queensland Government policies and standards.
* Knowledge and experience implementing information classification and assessments in alignment with Queensland Government Information Security Classification Framework (QGISCF), and the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
* Microsoft (M365) skills particularly 'modern in-place information and records management'.
* Knowledge and experience developing and implementing information management frameworks, strategies policies and standards.
* Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (e.g., Information Technology, law, business) will be highly regarded.
Your key accountabilities
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
* Develop, implement, and maintain an effective information architecture framework, including metadata standards, registers, and classification schemes, to ensure information is well-structured, accessible, and aligned with business needs, compliance requirements, and strategic objectives.
* Establish and maintain governance frameworks for effective information and records management, ensuring compliance with the Public Records Act 2023 (Qld), as well as other relevant legislation, government policies, and standards.
* Oversee the logging and ongoing management of all departmental information assets in an asset register, ensuring the register captures changing requirements and strategic assets are identified and managed throughout their lifecycle.
* Develop, implement, and review information and records management policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures to support business operations and ensure alignment with the organisation's strategic goals.
* Provide leadership and guidance to ensure that information and records are properly created, maintained, and lawfully disposed of in compliance with relevant policies, legislation, and regulatory requirements.
* Manage and coordinate staff training, awareness initiatives, and compliance programs to ensure understanding and adherence to information and records management obligations.
* Monitor, report on, and provide advice regarding information and records risks, quality, and compliance to support audits, reviews, and governance forums.
* Lead and build capability in the team, fostering positive teamwork through coaching others, providing performance feedback, conflict resolution and encouraging career development.
