Primary objective
Provide high-level strategic leadership and direction to develop, review and deliver key sport and recreation initiatives, policy,
investment, programs and strategy to the sport and recreation sector to support Territorians to lead healthy, active lifestyles whilst
providing oversight on the Northern Territory Government’s commitment towards concessions and seniors recognition schemes
to support cost of living pressures for vulnerable people.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide strategic leadership to ensure innovative, contemporary funding models and governance structures, and a strategic
approach to planning and funding of infrastructure projects for sport, recreation and concessions in the NT.
2. Identify and improve the accessibility and availability of sport and active recreation infrastructure and support local, regional,
Territory and national organisations to enhance the development of sporting pathways from grassroots to elite levels.
3. Lead and deliver on high level priorities across all areas of responsibility with a focus on improving the effectiveness and
efficiency of services through engendering a high level of professionalism, innovation and quality output.
4. Build and maintain respectful partnerships and collaborative relationships at the highest levels in government, industry and with
other strategic external stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives.
5. Approaches negotiations with a strong grasp of the key issues and takes a leadership role in relationship management for highly
politically sensitive issues for the areas of responsibility including leading and developing programs and strategies that support
the development and implementation of Government objectives.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated extensive strategic leadership skills and experience in developing high level strategies, policies and reform for
services that promote engagement of Territorians in physical, social and cultural activities relevant to this portfolio.
2. Demonstrated senior executive level experience driving and promoting sustainable programs and initiatives in order to meet
departmental objectives with a continuous performance improvement focus.
3. Proven senior executive level experience with an awareness of sport and active recreation across the NT and on a broader
national scale; and an awareness of NT concession programs.
4. Proven success in leading teams to develop and implement policy, programs and strategies to ensure robust partnerships and
engagement in a complex service delivery environment.
5. Superior communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to deal with uncertainty and build organisation capability and
ensure responsive and effective change management.
6. Exceptional collaborative and influential skills with a demonstrated ability to establish and sustain productive working
relationships and strategic alliances with key stakeholders and demonstrated sound professional judgement and political
acumen.
7. A high level of cultural competency and demonstrated experience working successfully with Aboriginal people and
communities.

1. Relevant tertiary qualification.
