About the Role
Our client, a leading government organisation are seeking a highly skilled Azure Platform Specialist / Technical Lead to provide technical leadership across its Microsoft Cloud environment. This role will be responsible for defining best-practice architecture, strengthening cloud security posture, and uplifting platform maturity across Azure and M365.
You will be a key technical authority, shaping cloud governance, security architecture and operational standards across programs that support critical infrastructure and digital transformation. This is an opportunity to influence large-scale platforms in a complex, enterprise environment where security, resilience and reliability are paramount.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead Azure cloud governance including landing zones, RBAC, policies, tagging, budgets and cost controls
* Design and implement subscription vending aligned to Microsoft CAF
* Establish Zero Trust security architecture across identity, network, applications and data
* Own Entra ID security design including Conditional Access, MFA, PIM and break-glass accounts
* Strengthen M365 security controls including Defender, Safe Links, Safe Attachments, SPF, DKIM and DMARC
* Build centralised logging and security monitoring using Log Analytics, Sentinel and Defender
* Improve Microsoft Secure Score and deliver regular reporting
* Define and govern API standards using Azure API Management
* Implement Azure Data Factory lifecycle standards (dev/test/prod, CI/CD, Key Vault integration)
* Design secure Azure networking including hub-and-spoke, private endpoints and segmentation
* Deliver high-quality architecture documentation and runbooks
* Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance to delivery teams
* Partner with cyber and business teams to manage risk and uplift security maturity
Skills and Experience
Essential
* Strong hands-on experience with enterprise Azure environments
* Deep knowledge of Azure governance and landing zone design
* Expertise in Microsoft Entra ID and M365 security
* Experience implementing Zero Trust architecture
* Strong experience with Sentinel, Defender and Log Analytics
* Solid Azure networking design experience
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Ability to produce clear technical documentation
Desirable
* Infrastructure as Code experience (Bicep or Terraform)
* CI/CD pipeline experience
* Azure certifications
* Microsoft Purview and data governance experience
* FinOps knowledge
* Experience in utilities, government or critical infrastructure
