**NEWS** Tweed Valley Hospital Development**
Major construction works are underway at the **green build site** of the $673.3 million Tweed Valley Hospital, delivering up to 650 jobs for the local community in addition to a **world-class facility with state of the art installations**.
The new Tweed Valley Hospital will almost double the capacity of the current Tweed Hospital and offer more health services locally. This will ensure more than 5,000 patients each year will not have to travel outside of the area and away from their families and support networks to access life-saving treatments.
The planning and design of the hospital has been a highly collaborative process, involving clinicians and operational staff as well as members of the local community. More than 500 project user group meetings have been held to ensure that the hospital is designed by, and for, the community.
With the Tweed-Byron region forecast to grow by 17 per cent over the next decade, the new hospital will service the increased demand, as well as offer education and training opportunities.
The proximity to the NSW TAFE Kingscliff campus provides the option to develop a health and education precinct over time, in addition to the on-site education and training space for staff.
The new hospital will include: - more operating theatres and recovery spaces - expanded emergency department - enhanced medical, surgical and mental health services - enhanced ambulatory care services including more outpatient clinics - new interventional cardiology service - new radiotherapy service as part of a new integrated cancer care service.
