Recovery at Work Officer (CL5/6)

At the NSW Department of Education, we educate and inspire lifelong learners - from early childhood, through schooling to vocational education and training.

As a Recovery at Work Officer, you'll play a key role in minimising the impact of workplace injuries and non-work-related health conditions by delivering timely, tailored, and effective injury management services. Your work will directly support educational continuity while improving return-to-work outcomes.

About the role

As a Recovery at Work Officer, you'll manage a portfolio of cases, develop workplace recovery strategies that support staff returning to work safely and efficiently. You'll work closely with internal stakeholders and external providers to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and departmental policy.

Key responsibilities include:

* Provide support and advice to staff that have sustained workplace injuries or non-work related injuries in accordance with legislative and operational processes.
* Develop recovery at work strategies, preparing, implementing and monitoring return to work plans and procedures to facilitate an early and safe return to work that is balanced with business operations and educational continuity.
* Maintain compliance with both workers compensation and injury management legislation and departmental policies and procedures to improve work health and safety performance.
* Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and external agencies to ensure effective claims and injury management.
* Prepare and coordinate reports on the progress and status of workers compensation claims and nonwork related rehabilitation programs including in response to correspondence.
* Manage all injury management and return to work databases in line with departmental policy and procedures.
* Oversee and participate in claims reviews with relevant stakeholders to improve workers compensation performance.

* Building and maintaining strong professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including rehabilitation providers and claims teams.

About you

You are a proactive and solutions-focused professional with strong case management skills and a solid understanding of injury management frameworks. Your excellent communication and organisational abilities enable you to effectively support staff and maintain positive stakeholder relationships.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

* Knowledge of workers compensation, injury management and/or rehabilitation
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders.
* Experience working in a high-volume environment with sound time management and decision-making skills
* Commitment to public education and continuous improvement.
* Current and valid driver's license and an ability and willingness to travel between work sites

Essential requirements of the role

* Return to work coordination training (or willingness to obtain) or relevant academic training/work history/experience
* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
* Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
