Base pay range

$120,457.00/yr - $149,485.00/yr

PSCA, Level 6 or 7, $120,457 - $132,753 or $139,860 - $149,485 p.a. plus 12% Superannuation.

Role and responsibilities

The Biodiversity Information Office (BIO) is responsible for making Western Australia’s biodiversity data more discoverable, accessible and usable and has implemented the Dandjoo data platform to mobilise data from all environmental-related sectors, including government, industry, research and the community. BIO’s ongoing program of work includes data sharing and outreach work, identifying and sourcing priority datasets for ingestion and delivery through Dandjoo and managing a central catalogue of the state’s taxonomic information to ensure data integrity.

This leadership role oversees the optimisation and support of biodiversity and taxonomic data curation across the full data lifecycle from ingestion and quality assurance to standards application, storage, and delivery. Working closely with software and data engineers, the team lead guides the development and implementation of data assurance workflows and ensures the integrity, accessibility, and compliance of data delivered via the Dandjoo platform. The role is pivotal in aligning data governance with the BIO’s strategic and operational objectives.

Selection criteria

Applicants should address the following six (6) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than three (3) pages in total.

- Substantial (Level 6) or extensive (Level 7) demonstrated knowledge of and experience in data governance and management with demonstrated experience in developing and implementing systems, policies and practices to manage data quality and compliance with statutory requirements.
- Substantial (Level 6) or extensive (Level 7) demonstrated experience in leadership and management of a team in a scientific or technical environment including planning, prioritising, coordinating multiple streams of activities, and supervising and monitoring staff to ensure delivery of program outcomes.
- Substantial (Level 6) or extensive (Level 7) experience with data management tools and techniques (e.g. metadata catalogues; workflow applications; relational, NoSQL or graph databases; Geographical Information Systems) and data quality assurance methods, practices and data standards (e.g. Darwin Core, ABIS) and protocols (e.g. FAIR and CARE).
- Substantial (Level 6) or extensive (Level 7) demonstrated ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver science data management outcomes and drive continuous improvements to business processes.
- Well-developed (Level 6) or highly developed (Level 7) interpersonal, written and oral communication and negotiation skills with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
- Substantial (Level 6) or extensive (Level 7) demonstrated experience managing scientific data or data repositories with a working knowledge of taxonomic nomenclature and terminology and its impacts on managing biodiversity data.
