Great Palm Island is the largest island in the Palm Island group and the only one with a significant population of permanent residents, most of whom are First nations people. The language name "Bwgcolman", meaning "one people from many groups", is derived from an Aboriginal language of one of the earliest groups of people removed from the mainland and settled there from 1918. ,Palm Island has a population of around 2 455 people. The purpose of this position is to provide high quality clinical services, and in particular ACRRM trainee and junior doctor supervision and training, as a part of the multidisciplinary team delivering integrated primary, community and secondary level health services to the Indigenous community of Palm Island. Cultural safety is paramount.JPHS has 15 beds, a 2 bay Emergency Department, a satellite haemodialysis unit, pharmacy and x-ray (provided by licenced x-ray operators).
Senior medical officers will be leading care provided at JPHS and focussing on the acute needs of Palm Island working in both an emergency department and inpatient was as part of a 7 day roster including after hours on call. Rural Generalists with any advanced skills are encouraged to apply. Registrars working towards completion of ACRRM and RACGP-RG are encouraged to apply with temporary roles until fellowship is obtained and permanency thereafter.
This position has a competitive renumeration Package in accordance with MOCA ( Medical Officer Certified Agreement) No7 in Queensland. Total Estimated Renumeration for a full time role starts at $361,250 for L13 up to $504,404 for L27 for full time roles. Accommodation on Palm Island is included in the package. Full time positions include 5 weeks of annual leave along with 3.6 weeks of Professional development. Eligible relocation expenses will be reimbursed as per Direct 11/11.
