Children, Youth and Families have a vacancy for a Kinship Assessment and Carer Support Practitioner. This important role is dedicated to achieving the best possible life outcomes for children and young people in out-of-home care. The Kinship Assessment and Carer Support Practitioner undertakes both initial and comprehensive assessments of family members and friends who wish to provide care, analysing a broad range of information and making well-informed recommendations regarding their suitability. In addition to assessment responsibilities, the role provides ongoing support to carers through individual advocacy and the planning and facilitation of education and training programs. Eligibility/Other Requirements: Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Science or related discipline. Please note: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who do not have these qualifications but who have appropriate and relevant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage and experience are eligible to apply. Child and Youth Protection Professional Level 3 (CYPP 3) must have at least two (2) years of practical experience working with children, young people and/or their families in a social work/case management role. This position requires a Working with Vulnerable People Check. Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra (act.gov.au) Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check. This role may work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and young people, cultural awareness, and capacity to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is required. Driver’s license (C class) is essential. Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately for a period of six months with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency. A merit pool or merit list may be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection method maybe from application and referee reports.
