Junior Clinical Fellow in Acute Medicine (CT1/2)

We are looking to recruit Junior Clinical Fellows to the Urgent Care Directorate, specifically within Acute Medicine at Northampton General Hospital.

The posts are suitable for Doctors looking to gain Acute Medical experience prior to starting Internal Medicine Training, GP Training or before applying for ST3 posts.

NGH has a strong track record of nurturing trust grades towards further training. It is because of this success that we re-recruit each year and these posts are available now because we expect manyof the JCFs currently working with us to be successful in their applications to Internal Medicine Training, GP specialist training and Higher Specialist Training.

Within Acute Medicine at Northampton, we provide trainees with the opportunity to gain experience in multiple acute assessment areas, Working within the Emergency Department, Same Day Emergency Care and Acute Medical Assessment wards.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside their ward team of Consultants, SpRs, SCF and other resident medical staff along with all other multidisciplinary health care professionals.

The successful candidate will be allocated a clinical supervisor and encouraged to complete training assessments in line with other trainees at the same level. This includes access to our highly successful Simulation Suite and to JCF - specific training in the Nye Bevan. The training programme is based on the JRCPTB IMT core curriculum and includes mentorship in applying for IMT, GPVTS etc.

We wish to appoint candidates with a good foundation in medicine who are looking towards a career in Medicine, or who wish to broaden their experience before a career choice.

TrainingThe majority of training will be on-the-job with close involvement of the consultants. The department has a weekly lunchtime teaching session and there will be opportunity to develop as an educator through support and training of junior colleagues.Junior Doctors are encouraged and supported to take part in clinical case presentations.In addition, we offer dedicated patient safety lectures and practical training on procedures such as ultrasound guided CVP insertion. We have a state-of-the-art Simulation department who provide sessions both to doctors in training and those in Clinical Fellowships. The full programme provides junior doctors with a comprehensive training package.

Job responsibilities

This post will give excellent opportunities to develop both your generic and clinical skills in Medicine, to further your career aspirations within the NHS, to assist in providing acute care services to the Trust, to provide input into medical student education for Oxford and Leicester undergraduates on the diagnosis and management of medical emergencies, to undertake Quality Improvement projects of value to patients and other health care professionals, to contribute to a large and dynamic team of junior doctors within the Medical directorate, to develop your career in Acute Medicine, to develop protocols within the acute medicine department and the interface with A&E for consistent safe and good quality care for acute admissions, to ensure good practice by regular audit and review of incidents with clinical team and take forward lessons learnt, to link in with the directorate clinical governance meetings and contribute to lessons learnt from incidents and complaints.

Clinical Experience

Education, Training

* MBBS or equivalent
* Full GMC registration with Licence to practice
