Contract - Billing Operations Engineer

Your new role
* Manage core billing operations including scheduled bill runs, direct debit processing, renewals and related data feeds.
* Maintain and configure billing platforms to support new services, pricing updates and operational stability.
* Optimise MySQL databases and create automation using Perl and shell scripting to reduce manual tasks and improve reliability.
* Investigate exceptions and resolve billing errors in collaboration with engineering, finance and customer support.
* Implement monitoring, checks and alerts to detect discrepancies before they affect customers.
* Produce, validate and audit billing reports to confirm accuracy and compliance.
What you'll need to succeed
* Minimum four years' experience in billing operations, system administration or a comparable technical role.
* Strong MySQL skills, including query optimisation and database performance awareness.
* Practical experience with Perl and shell scripting for automation and operational monitoring.
* Hands-on knowledge of bill runs, direct debit workflows, renewals and reconciliation processes.
* Familiarity with subscription or SaaS billing models and Agile tools such as Jira and Confluence.
* A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or a related field is preferred.
* Excellent analytical ability, attention to detail and clear communication across multidisciplinary teams.
