Senior Medical Officer – Emergency Department Central Gippsland Health | Sale, Victoria An excellent opportunity is available for a Senior Medical Officer (SMO) to join the Emergency Department at Central Gippsland Health. This position offers the chance to provide high-quality emergency care while contributing as a clinical leader and educator within a well-supported regional health service. There is dedicated support for International Medical Graduates, including structured supervision and mentoring, as well as support from the Director of Clinical Training for those preparing for the AMC Clinical examination. Central Gippsland Health (CGH) is a sub-regional health service and the primary provider of acute, aged care and community health services across the Wellington Shire. Located in Sale, approximately 215 km east of Melbourne, the region offers easy access to: * The Gippsland Lakes * 90 Mile Beach * The Victorian Alps CGH operates across three campuses (Sale, Maffra and Heyfield) and provides: * Full-time Emergency Department * Critical Care Unit * Neonatal Critical Care Unit * Three operating theatres * Day Procedure Unit * Oncology and Dialysis services * General medical and sub-acute services (including rehabilitation) * Residential aged care and community-based programs CGH is affiliated with Monash University School of Rural Health, supporting medical student and trainee placements. Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are strongly encouraged. The ED includes: * 2 resuscitation bays * 5 cubicles * 2 treatment rooms The department is supported by: * FACEMs * Senior Medical Officers * Junior Medical Officers * Highly skilled nursing staff * Deliver high-quality emergency medical care within approved scope of practice * Provide clinical leadership within the Emergency Department * Support operational efficiency and patient flow * Escalate service issues appropriately to the Hospital Coordinator or Executive team * Facilitate learning and supervision for JMOs, trainees, and students * Undertake performance appraisals as required * Maintain credentialing for invasive and non-invasive procedures This role combines frontline emergency medicine practice with education and service leadership responsibilities. * MBBS (or equivalent) eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia * General Registration with AHPRA (or eligibility for provisional/limited registration) * ACEM Non-Accredited Trainee * Minimum 5 years postgraduate experience * Significant experience in Emergency Medicine * Demonstrated experience supporting and training junior staff and students * Collaborative working environment with FACEM support * Strong IMG supervision and mentoring systems * Teaching hospital affiliation * Regional lifestyle with coastal and alpine access * Supportive executive leadership This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Emergency Medicine clinician seeking a leadership-focused regional role with strong educational support and lifestyle benefits.
