Deliver specialist mental health interventions that keep adults out of hospital, coordinating care for real recovery in the Greater Newcastle Acute Care Team.

Employment Type: Permanent Full Time and Temporary Part Time (Until February 2027)

Position Classification: Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2

Remuneration: $58.83 - $60.76 Per Hour + 12% Super + Salary Packaging

About The Team

The Greater Newcastle Acute Care Team, based at James Fletcher Hospital, provides brief, specialist mental health intervention for adults at risk of hospitalisation. Working in a fast-paced, recovery-focused service, the team supports consumers to remain safely in the community wherever possible, collaborating closely with inpatient, community and crisis services to ensure timely, person-centred care.

About The Role

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 - Mental Health, you will use your advanced clinical skills and judgement to assess, plan, implement and evaluate high-quality mental health nursing care for consumers experiencing acute distress. You will provide clinical leadership within the team, coordinating care to optimise consumer outcomes, proactively engaging in leader rounding with consumers and staff, and contributing to service improvement within the acute care setting. In this role, you will also support the development of specialty mental health practice across the service and help embed evidence-based, recovery-oriented models of care.

Deliver specialist, high-quality nursing care tailored to individual clinical needs.Provide clinical leadership and coordination to support safe, effective acute care.Contribute to the development of mental health clinical practice and service delivery.Support, guide and mentor less experienced staff and team members.

About You

You are an experienced mental health nurse who can balance clinical leadership with compassionate, person-centred care in complex and challenging situations. You are confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team, maintain clear professional and ethical boundaries, and can proactively engage with consumers to understand and respond to their needs.

You Bring

Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.Relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years’ experience in Mental Health.A post-graduate qualification in Mental Health, or equivalent qualifications/experience deemed to drive in NSW with a current unrestricted driver’s licence, and the ability and willingness to travel for work purposes, including driving long distances when required.Demonstrated ability to apply and share your professional expertise to enhance clinical care and consumer outcomes.Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and implement improvements in clinical service delivery.Demonstrated ability to work within professional boundaries as part of a multidisciplinary team.

You will be expected to take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others, follow workplace health and safety instructions and policies, and promptly report hazards, risks or incidents to your manager.
