Geotechnical Engineer Role
About this exciting role, we are seeking a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join our operations in an open pit mining environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting geotechnical mapping, core logging, and evaluations to deliver smart, safe, and cost-effective solutions.
* Main Responsibilities:
* Conduct geotechnical mapping of open pit high walls and core logging of drilling programs.
* Perform geotechnical evaluations, risk assessments, and provide recommendations.
* Monitor and assess geotechnical designs and pit slope stability.
* Design and implement de-pressurisation drilling programs as required.
* Ensure blast designs align with geotechnical domains and recommendations.
* Investigate geotechnical occurrences and deliver actionable insights.
* Provide geotechnical input into mine design and scheduling.
* Develop and maintain slope monitoring programs and conduct regular inspections.
* Deliver ground awareness training to site personnel.
* Collaborate with geologists, surveyors, engineers, and operators to optimise outcomes.
* Propose safe, cost-effective mining plans to key stakeholders.
* Identify and implement business improvement opportunities.
* Conduct regular audits and reviews, ensuring documentation is up to date.
* Ensure compliance with company and statutory geotechnical requirements.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will need:
* A tertiary qualification in Mining, Geoscience, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline with a focus on Geomechanics.
* Minimum 3 years' geotechnical experience in an open pit mining environment.
* Experience in Operations, Technical Services or Project Management.
* Working knowledge of safety systems, geotechnical design and controls for Open Pit operations.
* Familiarity with Rocscience Geotechnical software.
* Desirable skills: Leapfrog and Deswik.
* Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
* Awareness of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations.
