The Legal and Group Secretariat team provides expert advice and assistance to the Group to achieve its strategic goals and priorities, including by identifying and appropriately managing legal and regulatory risks.
The Regulatory Legal team provides strategic legal advice on significant regulatory and enforcement matters with ASIC, APRA and other regulators, including leading the Group’s responses to regulators on enforcement investigations and regulatory legal proceedings.
Do work that matters
As a Legal Counsel, you will advise on regulatory responses on significant regulatory matters. You will contribute to legal analysis of issues arising from regulatory responses and advise on appropriate steps including risk mitigation. You will also:
* Work with the SLC on regulatory litigation where enforcement proceedings are commenced, including review of all court documentation, evidence and preparation for legal proceedings.
* Provide input on external legal engagement on regulatory responses and regulatory legal proceedings.
* Support significant regulatory supervision projects such as onsite regulatory monitoring.
* Assist with Regulatory Legal reporting on relevant matters including internal reporting, due diligence queries and identifying emerging risks.
* Provide effective service delivery for significant regulatory responses through continuous improvement on planning, process design, communication and reporting.
We’re interested in hearing from people who have
* Minimum three or more PQE years of relevant legal experience.
* Excellent tertiary qualifications in law and a current NSW (or equivalent) practising certificate.
* Highly effective oral and written communication skills including the ability to provide clear, succinct plain English legal advice.
* Experience within financial services industry, or as a commercial/regulatory litigator.
* Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
* Strong work ethic and high integrity.
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to work calmly under pressure.
