Aboriginal Transitional Centre Worker
Corrective Services NSW
This position is open to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
What You'll Do
* Deliver case management for allocated residents, ensuring programs are followed and progress is monitored in line with established pathways and principles.
* Maintain safety, wellbeing, and security within the Transitional Centre by adhering to departmental policies and taking prompt action to address any breaches of Centre rules.
* Build professional, trusting relationships with residents, offering objective information, advocacy, and guidance to connect them with community‑based government and non‑government services.
* Ensure confidentiality by accurately maintaining records related to resident admissions and discharges.
* Support skill development by helping residents rebuild pro‑social and daily living skills, preparing them to re‑establish relationships and reintegrate successfully into the community.
* Provide crisis intervention and link residents to external welfare, support, and counselling services for appropriate assistance.
* Promote the Transitional Centre's role and principles within the local community and partner organisations to foster understanding and ongoing support.
* Strengthen relationships with the Aboriginal community and key stakeholders, collaborating with colleagues to deliver culturally relevant program interventions.
What We're Looking For
* Maintain confidentiality and accurate records for resident admissions and discharges.
* Support residents in rebuilding social and housekeeping skills to prepare for reintegration.
* Provide crisis intervention and connect residents with external welfare and counselling services.
* Promote the role and principles of the Transitional Centre within the local community and organisations to build understanding and support.
Essential Requirements
* Current First Aid Certificate or the willingness to obtain one prior to the commencement of employment.
* Preparedness to undertake shift work in a rotating roster, as required.
* A current Working with Children Check.
* Successful completion of the Security Awareness and Management of Female offenders training course.
* Current driver's licence and preparedness to drive a vehicle in the course of performing the role.
* Formal post‑secondary educational qualifications and experience in welfare related work or social science environment, or significant experience gained by working in that area is highly desirable.
* Aboriginality.
